I saw a lot of complaints about the way Luke died, like some viewers expected him to actually be there fighting Kylo in person and go out in an aggressive blaze of violent glory as a great warrior. To me, the way that it actually happened was much more befitting an advanced Jedi with a transcendent spiritual connection with "The Force." As Yoda said, "Wars not make one great!"

That is my take as well. I keep hearing "Luke needs to be more badass!" and I'm sitting here, thinking "How badass is it to win a battle without taking a single life?"

I truly don't see how it doesn't get more Jedi than that!

Very broadly speaking, I've found that there are basically two types of Star Wars fans. The ones that love the action and spectacle of lightsaber fights and space battles, and the ones that also pay attention. The former group are generally the ones most perplexed by the notion of a Jedi *not* carving everyone up into steaming chunks of partially cooked meat. I've also found they tend to be the ones most enamoured with the space viking type of Mandalorians and the edgelord "Grey Jedi" concept. Just a coincidence, I'm sure...

He forgot the third type of Star War fans who like to analyse their fellow fans to validate their own opinions when they are just all different opinions

So badass, that he doesn’t actually ‘die.’

    And now, never will.

    You take that back!

Hey that's a thought... maybe Rey should 'die' first few seconds of The Rise of Skywalker then she can really earn her Jedi stripes. :nyah:

Sounds good to me. And she can take Poe and Finn with her.

But leave Maz. Of all the new characters she's the only one I kind of like.

    Sort of.

    Somewhat.

    A little.

Does it serve the story? Then fine by me. It's a part of the mythos of Star Wars that death is something that a Jedi should not fear, and can still wield influence in the world. It is neither new, nor strange, nor should come as a surprise, especially in myth and world-making.

Maybe Rey would serve the story better if she was less of a Mary Sue and got a scratch every now and then. Lose an arm or something. I think if she died in the first five minutes of the next chapter she would improve as a character.

You are welcome to that perspective. I do not share it, nor do I consider Rey a Mary Sue. It might improve the film for some who share that point of view (certain point of view?) but it would not make for a better film or story.

The chronic liars (or possibly self-deluded) bullshitters?:p

I will literally be impressed if we one day do get an Obi-Wan movie, that just chronicles his sad life whilst being stuck in a Tattooine cave. Spending all his days tinkering with the few toys he has around, mulling over his regrets, and endlessly rewriting history within his own head.

It can lift from Kurosawa and Bergman, just like Lucas always wanted!
