I think the signal is just a wormhole opening. Notice that at the end they saw the seventh signal, which only makes sense if the Disco's departure was #6.

    I find this quite funny

TOS was the VASTLY superior show to discovery and yes, fans of that show don't like it's continuity trampled on.

It's akin to say, The Lord Of The Rings, another classic genre property, if they released a 6/10 TV show based on that which rewrote Gandalf as a drunk and that really Frodo didn't take the ring to mordor but a new character did, and Aragon had a best friend called Fred who was never seen before but was secretly always there and saved middle earth.

Like yeah, they wouldn't like it.

Discovery needed to stand on its own merit.

It's not that "continuity fanboy nerds" are angry that it's changed things

They are angry that a MIDDLING quality show is changing things, Discovery isn't a good enough show to have the right to rewrite the lore of an all time classic show.

Discovery needs to stop trying to reinvent the wheel and concentrate on just being a decent TV show

TBH, I think the scale of the stories they want to tell is an ill fit for the pre-TOS setting. If every universe-shattering season is going to end with "we can never speak of this again," I'd just as soon they move to a different time, I think. Ideally one where it's not preordained that the universe continues unshattered.

Michael actually figures that out herself and tells Spock to watch for the seventh signal, it will be from her and Discovery in the future.
To tell him they made it safely.

I liked how they explicitly just called Number One as such by name at the end.

    Total troll

    Yeah, NO.
TOS was great but DISCOVERY is also great.
Nothing DISCOVERY has shown us "tramples" on anything from TOS.
In fact, DISCOVERY has added to the tapestry of TOS in huge ways.

And that's coming from an Original viewer and hardcore believer of TOS.

I don't think DSC is a middling show but, putting that aside, I think Discovery could've been Gone With the Wind or The Wizard of Oz level quality and they still would've taken issue.

To be honest, I'd rather watch a pike series than discovery anymore. That was perhaps the worst discovery episode ever. Only made good by pike.

There is nothing in the history of entertainment that I like more than TOS, and I don't feel that way at all. Quite the contrary, actually. The backstory that DSC has created adds to my enjoyment of the original.

The TMP visual call-back to entering the wormhole was quite a welcome Easter egg.

I liked it! I just wish I knew where they ended up. I guess I am to assume they ended up in the 930 years in the future instead of the 28th century rumor

The complaints about "continuity police" and such in this topic are unfair. Yes, some people get hung up on continuity, but when the writers put really dorky lines like "no holograms ever again" and "let's never mention Discovery ever again", I really don't think that's what continuity fans are advocating for. If anything, it annoys them even more, because Kurtzman's much-vaunted grand plan to tie everything into TOS turned out to be a lame duck. Rather than work with the new material, it's all been literally shot into oblivion, straight through the wormhole of (apparently) no return.

I'm not sure if I'm a "continuity police" officer, but I do think since they've intentionally tied the show - both temporally and plot-wise - to an existing series, they should make sure everything very broadly checks out. As it stands, it feels like they threw a bunch of new ideas at us that they knew didn't quite fit, and instead of thinking of interesting ways to try and fit their new ideas into the overall story, they just put all the toys back in the box at the last second and handwaved it with a few jarring lines, which is irritating to Discovery fans and critics alike, when I'm sure a reasonably satisfactory and thematically interesting explanation of how this all fits together would have pleased both camps much more.

Hey, good catch. Interestingly, the subtitles simply say, "I'm giving you the conn," but the dialogue absolutely says, "I'm giving you the conn, Una."

So there we have it. Number has a (first) name.

Is the Michelle Yeoh spinoff dead and she's a reg in Disco now? Hard to reconcile the spin off with her in the future...

Or perhaps no change or explanation whatsoever since what they were doing was just fine.

And I fail to see how criticisms of the continuity police are unfair.

NO, the Section-31 show is definitely a go, but not until after the third season of DISCOVERY.

At which point we'll find out just how They plan on putting the MU Georgieu character into place.

They never said when that series would be set. We just assumed it would be in the 23rd century.

Based on the types of things that are being disputed: I think it's safe to say the second season finale has, so far, been better received than the first season finale.
