Personally I would love a well-done musical episode. Admittedly that's in part because it would be a gigantic middle finger to those weird fans who don't understand that Star Trek is a show/dramatic depiction, and not an actual documentary of the future.

Just watched it last night. One of the best Star Trek episodes ever made. Doug Jones is incomparable.

I would say a musical episode would be a bad idea, but I saw the unused musical ending of The Last of Us (if you like that game, search YouTube and be rewarded), which warped my reasoning and yeah.. I could see a lot of ways it could work. It would be fun.

The fandamentalists would go into convulsions, then come around and gradually come into long eruditions on the reasons that actually people break into song in the Prime universe all the time, we just don't hear it, etc.

Do we know how many cast members can actually sing well?

Well Anthony Rapp and SMG. Doug Jones can sing fine.

Mary Wiseman, Doug Jones, SMG and Anthony Rapp all did a carpool karaoke episode on apple tv.

I thought Jones's singing was the weakest by far. But his makeup probably interferes. I'm guessing many of his lines onscreen are overdubs as it is.

And that's the problem. People ask for these all the time with shows, but they never live up to the hype. I love the idea of musical episodes, but they inevitably always make me feel left wanting. In the 20 or 25 or whatever shows' musical episodes that I've seen over the years, there's still only been one that's truly impressed me. And maybe that's the problem: It set the bar so high that I always end up feeling like "Nice try, but no."

I guess the title of this episode (An Obol for Charon) will take on at least one additional meaning after "Saints of Imperfection"...

Wow, the musical episode idea took on a life of its own in this thread. I was kidding, when I was suggesting it. But, that being said, I've liked the musicals I've seen in other shows. Not that I actually think Discovery should drop everything for a Song & Dance or do everything to a Song & Dance.

Would've been funny, though, if Michael Burnham redeemed herself in the eyes of Starfleet and forgave Tyler, Dirty Dancing style. Then the entire crew, the entire Federation, and the Klingon Empire got in on the act.:devil::devil:
