No need to blame the reboot. It started with TNG.

    Gotta say, Sonequa looks so much better with longer hair (whether it's Afro-styled or straight);

She doesn't look good with the short gender-neutral hairstyle on the show. Some women can pull off short hair, but it isn't a flattering look on her.

Bring on the Reno spinoff where she commands a ragtag team of misfits onboard a SCE ship!

Also! I did the big teeth smile when Pike mentioned the Engineering Corps.

    I'm on page 32 now ...

What I noticed about Burnham's hair in the pilot's flashback scenes (first introduction to Georgiou) was not that her hair was straightened. Instead, I noticed that on one side it had the pointed sideburn-ish thing, making her ear look more pointed, and on the other side the hair was brushed/combed/pulled back behind the ear, showing that it was rounded. The impression I got was that the hairstyle was to show Burnham's duality struggle; trying to be Vulcan, but always human.

    YMMV. :techman:

    A little bit awkward?

Agree on long hair. Disagree on short/neutral hair. So far, I've not seen a hairstyle on her I haven't loved, but I do prefer her big, longer hair.

    No.

Registry numbers issued in chronological order. And Starfleet's still small enough in the late 2250's for someone like Saru to keep track of most of their capital ships.

I'm guessing either Discovery is involved in a situation where it needs to be a two-ship job because they can't do it alone or they end up in a bind and the Enterprise comes in like the cavalry. To quote Sulu, "Now we've given them something else to shoot at."

Every good or likable boss I've ever had was quirky or awkward in some way. Not like tripping over themselves awkward but like... like bosses where you kinda go, 'Wow, they can be a real dork sometimes...' It's humanizing and helps build trust (for some).

This was an improvement -- but geez, Michael Cohen has more charisma than Michael Burnham.

    Sincerely,

I mean, that's not impossible. But isn't the NCC-1031 a newer ship than the NCC-1701?

Well, not in an organisation with a military style hierarchy and command structure.

I misread that as Saru and got confused.

They're not a modern day military, they don't need to follow their example.

Sounds like someone paid you lots of money in a bag at a Walmart parking lot.

I got the impression that the suit to which he was referring was the skin tight under suit thing and all the hardware/booster pack stuff was stored in the pod and attached in anticipation of ejection.

Yeah, sure. Make sense of it, why don’t ya?

It was the boxing glove that sealed the deal, admittedly.

I can't help but think changing that one Fullerism would vastly improve the show -- it doesn't need to be centered around her. You can address all the Spock stuff just fine in A Very Special Michael Burnham Episode here and there.
