He didn't write Khan as a white British guy. The role was supposed to go to Antonia Banderas, which would have been consistent with the original Mexican-playing-an-Indian motif. You can't blame Kurtzman for a casting change.

It will be the one and only Khan Noonian Singh.

But wouldn't that be problematic since it was Spock Prime who told NuSpock that Khan was someone who wanted to commit acts of genocide and wouldn't hesitate to kill everyone on the Enterprise? If those will be the same details that describe Khan in this show, it wouldn't be correct since those details are exclusively about NuKhan.

See where I'm coming from? Just like how Nemesis made Cadet Picard bald in his photo when he shouldn't have been, the original Khan could very well be replaced with Benedict's Khan because hey, that's who Spock Prime was describing.

This may be a silly notion but has been 100 percent confirmed that Picard will be the main character in this series? Only bring it up because it's rare to have someone his age leading a franchise show like this as the main lead. Luke Skywalker for example wasn't the lead in The Force Awakens and neither was Spock Prime in ST: 2009. Thinking maybe Picard could be a co-lead.

TOS KHAN: Each of you in turn will go in there. Die while the others watch.
    ...
TOS KHAN: Surely I have made my meaning plain. I mean to avenge myself upon you, Admiral. I deprived your ship of power and when I swing around, I mean to deprive you of your life. But I wanted you to know first who it was who had beaten you.

Sounds like he (TOS KHAN) is brilliant, ruthless, and will not hesitate to kill every single one of the Enterprise crew.

Thing is, killing the crew isn't what he wants to do. If you recall, Khan goes from demanding Spock join him to spare Kirk, to 'anyone' joining him to spare Kirk. He will sweeten the deal.

This quote is actually perfect example of why Khan is not the type of person who not hesitate to kill someone. What Khan is doing here is worse than hesitating. He's 'gloating'. He had the perfect opportunity to kill Kirk and everyone onboard the Enterprise with his surprise attack, but he didn't. And as Kirk and Khan's discussion goes on, Khan is actually open to accepting Kirk's terms to spare the rest of his crew in exchange for himself and the Genesis data.

Now if you want an example of the original Khan being a killer, well, there is the staff of Regula One. Torture, slitting throats. Yeah, that sounds pretty bad. However, a part of me believes that this is mostly in thanks to Khan becoming a more cold, sinister person thanks to spending 15 years on a hellish Ceti Alpha 5 than something a pre-Ceti Alpha 5 Khan would have done. Remember, Khan was not known as a Tyrant who massacred people.

It bums me out that Khan isn't looked back on as a tragic figure who, if things had only gone right on Ceti-Alpha 5, could have given us a unique civilization that could have thrived in a richly diverse galaxy. That was after all the point of the ending to Space Seed. You don't get that kind of character with NuKhan.

Uh, CBS never ignored the supernova, they always considered it part of Prime Canon, long before this came around.

Any new TV show/movie set in the Prime universe after 2387 would have mentioned it.

And he’s been honouring Star Trek lore since day 1.

I'm absolutely cool with the Romulan supernova being a major plot point in the new Picard series. It happened in the Prime Timeline eight years after NEM and thus would be one of the greatest geopolitical events in the galaxy during the late 24th century and arguably one of the biggest since the founding of the Federation. For the supernova and the destruction of Romulus to not directly impact somebody like Jean-Luc Picard - a man who has had his share of encounters with and ties to the Romulan Star Empire during the course of his long career - would be ridiculous and a glaring missed opportunity for any series or movie set in the Prime Timeline post-2387.

The fans saying this means the Picard series is set in the Kelvin Timeline either don't understand the very franchise they say they watch and love or are just idiots looking for a reason to take cheap potshots at the series before it ever launches.

We know Nero laid the blame at Spock's door. But what does the Tal Shiar believe?

What do the surviving leaders of Romulan society think?

Do some take the Federation at their word in trying to help, but arriving too late?

Those that blame the UFP for the destruction - how do they react to their leaders exploring ways to receive aid and support from Starfleet?

What if Starfleet want's to distance themselves from it, and throw Spock under the bus? Does this become about Picard trying to persuade a new Federation president to offer help, and building on relationships established after Nemesis to pull Romulan survivors back from alliances with Federation enemies?

It will have been 12 years since the Hobus incident. I don't think the series will focus on it as a central theme. Kurtzman merely said it influenced Picard in some deep way and made him who he is in the series. Stories about war vets who suffer PTSD don't have to focus on the actual war, nor it's aftermath.

Not quite - maybe Banderas was talked about briefly, but IIRC, It was Benicio del Toro who was initially supposed to play Khan. And yes, it would have been another Hispanic-as-Indian Sikh, but I think either would have been preferable to what we got. I love Cumberbach, but he was woefully miscast as Khan, IMO.

Could easily be taken as such nonetheless.

An event of such magnitude would still be experiencing fallout - but sure the stories could be about disgruntlement at actions and decisions made some time before. I was just spit balling some questions which could show up

Yes, Del Toro. I stand corrected. But the point remains: Khan was not written as a white guy.

Kirk got altered to look like a Romulan. Khan having a face lift is at least reasonable compared to other unbelievable things for me in a Star Trek film.

Agreed. How many times have we seen our heroes physically altered to blend in with the natives? Marcus was wise to disguise one of history's most dangerous tyrants before putting him in his service. Would you hire Hitler as a Walmart greeter without first doctoring his image?

Anyway, that's post facto. Nothing to do with the script.

There had to be a lot of humans walking around mid-23rd century Earth who would recognize the face of Khan Noonien Singh from their history books and classes and wonder why the spitting image of one of the most notorious tyrants of the late 20th century was in their midst. Admiral Marcus clearly had Khan surgically altered to hide his true identity and then gave him the name "Harrison" to further conceal his background.

"Would you reveal to war-weary populations that some 80 Napoleons were still alive?"

Spock Prime made a good point. Admiral Marcus just took that to the next level of deception.

So many people in this thread bringing their 2013 problems into 2019...

As far as I'm concerned, Kelvin Universe Khan is a white Brit. Prime Khan is... some kind of Indian/Spanish/somethingrotherbadwriting.
