Didn't call it bad makeup. Just Dated. The TNG makeup is a more advanced type, & usuasly more realistic looking, but yeah the end result is even worse

But the Picard makeup in The Inner Light is slightly more realistic than Kirk's. So is Kelley's in Farpoint. Still not great, but an improvement... Reminiscent of Back To The Future's makeup era

Also they're not really older. They're suffering from radiation sickness that strongly mimics aging so there's no exact way they should look

McCoy's hair was decidedly thicker when he aged in The Deadly Years as was Kirk's! His swept back hair which indicated his fifties was okay but when he reached his seventies his hair sprang forward again and thickened!!! What a guy! Even in old age this chap was the best!:rofl::rommie:

William Windom in The Doomsday Machine. He sold his horror and anguish so well it was almost uncomfortable to watch.

I like Morgan Woodward's performance in Omega Glory. One of my favorite Star Trek bad guys ever.

Personally I love Shatner's performance in "The Conscience of the King." It's subtle, restrained, nuanced and utterly convincing.

Shatner takes a lot of undeserved shit. He carried a lot of TOS at times with his talent and sheer will

Seconded. He turns in a great performance. The initial scene where he tells Kirk & Co. what happened to Constellation is heartbreaking.

He does deserve some flak but he did indeed carry TOS with his acting, comedy and charisma. He has many great episodes where you could truly believe he was a Starship captain.
I don't have any problem with his acting. Seen much worse day in and day out any show even when Shatner was at his most idiosyncratic.

Early Shat = very good, later Shat = gurning and corny in a lot of his scenes!

Frankly, if they'd stayed with Jeffrey Hunter, I don't think any of us would be here right now. That's really all that needs to be said about the impact Shat's work had on that show. Even when it was bad, we still enjoyed it, & it wasn't always, by & large. Some of it is downright impressive

His worst overacting was in the early episode "The Enemy Within"

I don't know....his turbo lift scene with Spock in 'And The Children Shall Lead' was pretty cheesy.

Steve Ihnat as Garth in "Whom Gods Destroy". He made me feel sympathy, attraction and revulsion for Garth all at the same time.

I thought Shatner was at his best in "Balance Of Terror"
    Nimoy in "Amok Time"
    Kelley in "Shore Leave"
I thought the gaseous cloud did a fantastic job in "Obsession"

Only in the scene where Kirk tried to get him to remember his past achievements! The rest of the time he was just pure bat crazy!
