Huh, I know that we are dealing with multinational corporations, but it never occurred to me that countries, other than the home nations of the companies involved, could stop a merger. Who decides who gets to weigh in? I assume Monaco doesn't have to approve all the mergers of the companies that sell stuff within it's borders.

I would assume it's less that China can stop the merger legally and more that China can say 'We don't like this merger - stop it, or we won't allow you access to our market anymore'. And China does have a big market which Disney wouldn't want to lose.

Edit: It doesn't really sound like that, though. Is it possible that some major international corporations like Fox and Disney have deliberately attained status in other countries like China in order to get some benefit? Maybe that's why they're subject to foreign antitrust law? Which would come down to the same thing, I guess, since I assume Disney could just choose to say screw you and do it anyway and the only consequence would be they lose the ability to operate in China. But they obviously wouldn't want that to happen, so they wouldn't do that.

Stan Lee will have cameos in at least Captain Marvel, The Untitled Sequel, Into the Spider-Verse, and Ralph Wrecks the Internet. I might be misreading Feige's tease, but there are perhaps even more in the can since they recorded them in bunches. It would be poignant if his final cameo would be in Far From Home.

I hope the one that says "In Loving Memory of Stan Lee" is in A4 instead of Captain Marvel. More poignant they do so in the film that wraps up 10 years of stories before "Generation 2" begins.

Not worth a whole thread but I figured some people will be interested in this news: Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter is named in an NYC bribery case.

The NY Daily News reported this past Wednesday that former NYPD sergeant David Villanueva, who once worked in the NYPD’s License Division, testified under oath that he helped get Perlmutter’s license to carry a firearm renewed (a normally difficult task considering NYC’s laws) in exchange for tickets to a number of Marvel movie premieres, many of which were held in Los Angeles. The claim comes in the wake of new changes to the application process which, beginning earlier this year, now require that anyone seeking a gun permit in NYC go through an online portal as opposed to filling out physical applications turned in directly to the License Division.

Is it too much to hope for Perlmutter to finally be forced out? Yeah, probably. :(

NYC takes their gun laws seriously (see my boy Plaxico). He could be in deep doo doo.

Potential character descriptions for the Eternals have been revealed. Surprising inclusion is Eros, the brother of Thanos also known as The Avenger Starfox.

His inclusion would indicate they are going to play up the connection to Thanos, which was established after the fact by other writers and not a part of Jack Kirby's original concepts.

Pretty much everything I've heard about Perlmutter has been bad, so I would not be disappointed if this got him fired.

He owns about 37% of Disney Stock, but if they can get more then 50% of the other shareholders to vote for him to step down as Chairman of Marvel Entertainment he'll have to abide by it thanks to the lawsuit.

The promised MCU timeline was presented in the Marvel Studios: The First 10 Years sourcebook. They condense the 2008-2018 releases into 2010-2017 (with the exception of the first Captain America, or course.) Not listed is Ant-Man and the Wasp, but it's placement is obviously concurrent with Infinty war, and Captain Marvel, which will take place in 1995.

In Phase One, 2008 release Iron Man has been bumped to 2010, while fellow 2008 release The Incredible Hulk is bumped to 2011. Thor and Avengers still take place in the year they were released, but 2013's Iron Man 3 takes place in 2012 (Tony is obviously telling the story to Banner in 2013, but the events take place at Christmas 2012).

Phase Two is the most straightforward. 2013's Iron Man 3 is a story being told in 2013, while the rest of Phase Two indeedtakes placein the the year that they were released, with Phase Three's Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 thrown into 2014.

Phase Three is where things get creative again. 2016's Civil War is properly placed in 2016, as is 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. 2016's Doctor Strange takes place from 2016 and into 2017. 2017's Thor: Ragnarok and all of 2018 releases take place in 2017. My only complaint (but far from my only question) would be placing 2018's Black Panther in 2017 when it should be in 2016, along with Civil War and Homecoming. In fact, BP should actually take place before Homecoming as it picks up two weeks after CW and the story unfolds in a matter of days, a week at most. Meanwhile, the bulk of Homecoming takes place starting three months later.
