Last week, I spent five days in San Jose, California at the 76th World Science Fiction Convention. I didn't take a lot of photos, but here are a few of the ones I did take:

Author Guest of Honour, Spider Robinson:

    The Harlan Ellison memorial panel:

(Tom Whitmore, Robert Silverberg, Chris Barkley, David Gerrold, Christine Valada, Nat Segaloff)

    "Why Do Writers Kill Characters?"
(Fonda Lee, Peter S. Beagle, Spider Robinson, Ada Palmer, John Kessel)

    Cosplayers:

In the Exhibits area, the contents of a time capsule from the 1992 Worldcon (Magicon, in Orlando, FL) were on display. This caught my eye:

I was at the party in the Locus suite one night, and met this young man who was getting a bowling pin autographed by all of the pros in the room. Being a bowler, I had to get a photo:

And there was also a little visitor I had to move before we went out.

Sounds like fun, we are headed to the Salt Lake City comic con (Fan X) next week. Hope they have a good author line up.

I just got home from Dragoncon (literally - I walked in the door a little over an hour ago), where I took a lot of photos, but I think I'm only in one of them. A little background - until a few years ago, the Marriott Marquis hotel in Atlanta, which is one of Dragoncon's host hotels, had an iconic carpet pattern. There were people who made costumes patterned after the carpet (they actually received a cease-and-desist letter from the manufacturer), and it just keeps going. After the hotel replaced the carpet a few years ago, someone actually managed to get their hands on the discarded carpet and sold squares cut from it (yes, I have one :D). Anyhow, I had to get a photo with this Stormtrooper:

This was from my daughter's high school football team (she's in the band). I was looking at the numbers on the jerseys, and was staring at them for several minutes thinking the font looked familiar until it finally dawned on me! The name on the front (above the numbers) was also in the Trek title font, but it was too small to get a good picture.

Last weekend was Thanksgiving here in Canuckistan so we took advantage of the extended weekend to go to an apple Orchard. It was perfect weather for it.

It was my son's first time apple picking. He's had apple before, but this is the first time he's had a whole apple to bite into. He really enjoyed it!

In the "What Are You Reading?" thread, I mentioned that I was going to a Charles Stross book launch today... I thought it was for The Delirium Brief, but while there were copies available, the launch was actually for the next book in the series, The Labyrinth Index.

I had only brought the book I'm currently reading, Accelerando, to be signed as I injured my back about a week ago and couldn't see myself carrying all of his books which I own. So, of course, I ended up buying five while at the bookstore where the launch was taking place. (Including the pictured The Delirium Brief - I'd been holding out for the mass market paperback edition, but based on what I was told a few months ago by someone who works for Tor, there might not be one. Which annoys me somewhat, because now the books on the shelf don't match...)

    So.

Son and beloved daughter in law just had twins, which was unexpected. And she's all like:

So Gran and Pa to the rescue! And I got to meet these handsome gentlemen:

This meant staying up with them all hours, and now I'm back home I am so wrecked I can't believe it. I can't even raise my arms above shoulder height right now. But what a privilege! :)

@Dukhat : For shame, sir! If you dress as Kirk, you are supposed to rip your SHIRT, not your jeans. *tsk*

couple of pictures in there that I would think make some very nice desktop wall papers - the top prize winning photo and the winning galaxy picture would be my two top choices.

I'd give your photo a thumb up, but it's already got two of those.
