He has the look. Playing Spock is a HUGE deal, I'm not familiar with his work so I'm curious to see if he's up to it (ditto the writers)
When Zachary Quinto was cast, I was struck by his resemblance to Leonard Nimoy. With Ethan Peck I'm struck by his resemblance to Zachary Quinto.
He played Ashton Kutcher's character in a flashback. Ethan Peck is around the same age as Nimoy when TOS aired, Peck is 32 while Nimoy was 35
If Majel Barrett could dye her brunette hair blonde for Nurse Chapel, then Rebecca Romijn can just as easily go the other way for Number One. Heck, her best-known role had red hair and blue skin.
Oh! Now I remember the scenes he was in. Young Kelso... and Spock. Yeah, so, if he can pull both off those roles, then he has some acting range. There's about a 100 IQ-point difference between both characters. That might even be an understatement.
I accept and celebrate the Spockiness of this guy's face. Quinto was always a bit too pretty looking for my taste and I was always looking for the sharp lined Spock with the squintier eyes. This guy fits more what I imagined young Spock would look like.
With all this casting for the original series characters I hope they still remember this show is called Star Trek Discovery.
I can just hear the audition. Peck: The women. Casting Director: No. Again. Peck: The women! Casting Director: No. Again. Peck: THE women! Casting Director: Close. Again. Peck: THE WOMEN! Casting Director: You got the part. He works for me.
Meh, STD didn't need Spock. They went and cast him anyway. For all the talk about STD standing on it's own. It's all bullshit. Whatever, let it all burn. I'll wait for Trek that doesn't need to continuously reference other better Trek to make it on it's own.
You mean like all the Star Trek shows since TOS didn't? Oh wait: TNG had McCoy in the pilot episode, Spock, Scotty, and essentially remade at least 2 TOS episodes (Not to mention killing Kirk in their first movie). DS9 did several Mirror Universe episodes and the tribble episode, and brought back Kor, Koloth and Kang for some reason. VOY had Sulu. ENT did a direct sequel to First Contact, had Data's great-great-grandfather, that bullshit explanation for the smooth-headed TOS Klingons, and let's not forget TATV. I think the new Spock looks good. Can't wait for Disco S2.
The only thing I've seen him in was 10 Things I hate About you where he played, shall we say, the least Spock-like character one can imagine... So, uh, who knows... I hope he's a good choice.
