That still sounds pretty big, how about Guardians of the Grocery Store.

    Guardians of...wait for it...The Room.

That's a little bit of an in-joke, but if you don't know what I'm referring to, I highly recommend not finding out.

That's true. I kind of had a brain fart. If Gunn was working for Fox it might have been a big deal since they are the one being absorbed into the Disney monolith. Even then it would no doubt just maybe lower the amount of money DIsney would be willing to spend just a smidge.

Why do people think Disney would loose money if they didn't make Guardians 3? Wouldn't they just make another MCU movie instead?. Maybe move something up to replace it already in the works then start planning out another Superhero to introduce. I hear this Lobo character might be interesting. Sounds kind of like Hellboy from what I have heard. Also you always have the Inhumans to turn to.

If the cast (Bautista in particular) would stop complaining and bringing this back onto page 1 I'm sure the scandal would die down enough for Guardians 3 not to face much backlash under a different director.

The money they have spent so far developing GOTG3 would be a write off. A business expense. It would help in the company’s taxes.

Now, there is a potential chunk of change they could have earned if they don’t make it... but that’s not a loss. That’s a could’ve.

I would be surprised if they don’t make the movie. I think it might get pushed back a little, to let things calm down a bit... But then, right off the expense might also be attractive, avoiding more PR.

American Dad isn't on Fox anymore and "Family Guy" has the benefit if McFarlande never getting people angry over something he did away from the show. Plus it's a cartoon. Cartoon's take some of the edge off of stuff because it's not really human beings saying and doing those things. You will never see "Orville" get away with having a Herbert type on the show or people talking to graphic about sex. A few penis jokes which you never actually see is about it.

Sigh. American Dad is still produced by FOX.

For just one example: GotG is on the way to becoming EPCOT Center's first-ever roller coaster in about three years (for Walt Disney World's 50th birthday). They're building it right next to Spaceship Earth (replacing the old solar-powered Universe of Energy), and the building's already almost as large as that park icon. Gonna be rather awkward, to say the least, if that franchise is DOA by the time the ribbon's cut.

    BTW, Lobo's DC.

Just remove the guardian statues or whatever they have and stick up some Avengers instead. Problem solved.:)

Yeahhh, about that.... see, back in the 90's before Disney owned Marvel, and said company was near-bankrupt and offering up film/TV/merch rights to whoever wanted it, Universal snapped up theme park rights to the lion's share of the Marvel characters (inc. all the Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four) east of the Mississippi. (GotG wasn't even on the radar at the time and thus wasn't included in the deal.) Those rights are now Universal's for as long as they want it. They built a Marvel Land in their Islands of Adventure theme park next to Universal Studios Orlando in 2001, and have no intention to closing it. So now, unlike Disneyland, Walt Disney World can't touch any of it.

I don't think that's how those right work. I think Universal has rights to make rides out of the comic book versions of the characters. They can't touch the movie versions, and that probably means that Disney can.

Clearly, you don't remember his Oscar hosting stint. But, the internet is forever.

Again, FOX has a different brand than Disney.

Nope, it's the characters themselves, comic or movie versions, and all characters related to them - exclusive and in perpetuity, lock, stock and barrel. (Again, this contract was drawn up long before Disney entered the picture.) WDW can advertise upcoming films, provided they NOT use the Marvel name (not even Disneyland can use it). They can sell merchandise featuring the movie characters, but NOT in the parks themselves. On the other hand, Universal themselves can't use the movie versions in any way, shape or form.

The only way that changes is if either a) Universal themselves decide to give the rights back to Disney - not happening - or b) Disney can legally prove in court that Universal's use is a poor representation of Marvel and/or doing material harm to Marvel's business.
