Out of morbid curiosity, what franchise? SW? B5? Buffy?

Also the broad outline might be really interesting -

'at the end of his life, a disgraced dying Picard finds the path to redemption' or something similar that actors lap up.

The novelverse aside, TNG concluded triumphantly with all good things and I don't really think Picard's story needs to be continued at least on TV format. Let it rest.

Well its not resting. Lol it is happening hence the discussion. Furthermore, alot can happen in 20 years. Its not like Picard retired never to be heard from again.

Not to derail the Picard discussion too much...

The announced books are on Amazon.com for preorder - The Way to the Stars, The Antares Maelstrom, Available Light - the listings have a few changes to the blurbs that were previously announced.

Interestingly, they are all labelled as "Paperback" - i.e. trade paperback - as opposed to MMPB, which Amazon identifies separately (see Architects of Infinity for comparison). Either this is an error on Amazon's part, or the new contract sees Pocket pivoting entirely to TPBs...

Also, their release dates are early in the announced month, rather than the usual "week before the publication month".

^Ah, an exciting development that would likely see me respond by pivoting entirely to eBooks for shelving reasons. As has been said, the only thing that doesn't change is change...

    It's trade paperback.

From a blog post by Dayton (emphasis mine):

"At present, there only seems to be a lonely Amazon link for the physical print/trade paperback edition,[...]"

I won’t be switching to ebooks but it is going to bugger up my shelves

They’re all the same price which would indicate that they are all TPBs.

To be honest though, except for Star Trek almost every new book I’ve got in the last few years in paperback has been a TPB. MMPBs seem to have been consigned to history.

It’s been contracted and announced so it will be published.

When is not known. It was originally scheduled for December 2017.

I expected a pivot to trades a decade ago. Pocket will lose sales, no doubt, because of the price point, but they'll end up making more money, again, because of the price.

re: Picard series and the books

Be nice if they synced up but if they didn't, I can't say I'd mind that much. There's no big, hanging plotlines for Picard in the way there is for the various DS9 characters.

One of the big questions in my mind is, if Worf/Klingons appear will they look like Discovery Klingons or not...

I say we get Michael Dorn on board and have him change make-up each episode. He can start with TNG Klingon make-up, appear next in Discovery Klingon make-up, and then show up with TOS Klingon make-up. Most importantly: nobody is allowed to make reference (on the show) to his changed appearance.

Not going to narc on another franchise. I kept the story vague on purpose. :)
