You know what the best Godzilla movies focus on? Children. So, its a good thing that was a focus of this trailer (and presumably this movie). :censored: :brickwall: But, if they can manage more then 45 seconds of actual monsters, this should be at least watchable. I was hoping for more, but I didn't think they were taking inspiration from the era of Godzilla where he was more of a friend to kids then, you know, Godzilla.

Basically, from the trailer it looks like Godziulla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah are going to be awesome, but based off the last godzilla movie they'll get about 1 minute of screen time combined for the first 2 hours, then a 3 minute fight scene somewhere near the end of the movie (and I say that as someone who likes the last US Godzilla movie fairly well). Still, those 5ish minutes will probably be really cool. I'll probably wait until I can see it on home video so I can fastforward through the boring 3 hours of human stuff (now with a kid, because someone in charge hates Godzilla fans).

Considering the movie's ten months away, that is one impressively FX-heavy trailer.

Hmm, that would pretty much be a remake (or at least a rematch) of Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, the debut of King Ghidorah.

KG was heroic once, though, in the aforementioned Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, because he was originally going to be Varan but the studio insisted on a more famous monster. And because Godzilla was the big bad in that one.

Eleven vs. Godzilla? Ol' lizard-breath has no idea what's about to hit him.

On a serious note, I love how Millie Bobby Brown has almost as much of a presence in the film as Godzilla himself. :D

I'm only a casual fan of the long-existing Godzilla franchise, but as a casual viewer, I have to say the monsters we do see here (I know Mothra's name at least) look absolutely gorgeous and the film is packed with a killer cast, so I hope the film is at least highly entertaining, even if it doesn't make any sense. I only hope the characters are better written than those in 2014's Godzilla, which was my biggest issue with that film.

Maybe when they reboot all this in a decade they'll realize that Godzilla is the draw of the movie, not the b-list TV actors they shove into it. Then again, I'm surprised they managed to resist the urge to put Minilla in this film, since they seem to want to get little kids involved in the story so much.

Historically, King Ghidorah has been Godzilla's arch-nemesis, and I'm so, so, so happy to see that he's appropriately massive in this; I can't wait to hear what they've done with his traditional shrieks / screams. Mothra and Rodan look pretty sweet, too, but honestly I'm in this for Godzilla throwing down with King Ghidorah.

I fucking love Godzilla '14 and that roar at the end of this trailer made me grin like a six-year-old on his birthday.

    Oh my God, shut up.

Maybe you should just wait for the new film series Toho has announced past 2021.

Hey, I liked the 2014 movie. I just didn't predict a sequel would star a kid (because literally no good Godzilla movie has had a focus on a kid). But I guess because they were on a shitty Netflix show they obviously needed to be in the movie. At least the first movie's token B-list actor,Bryan Cranston, is an adult, a good actor and barely in the first movie, so them using him wasn't a distraction (the movie had other problems to make up for that).

I'll definitely watch the 3 minutes of monster action in this movie, and it will probably look great.

First off, "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster" is one of my favorite G-movies.

Second, have you at least seen the "shitty Netflix show" in question this time around?

I only got about an episode into Stranger Things. I have zero nostalgia for The Goonies or Speilbergs 80s stuff (I actually dislike all of his pre-Jurassic Park films), so I'm the last person that show is for. I also hate live actions shows focusded on kids, and ST did basically everything that annoys me. In the end, a bunch of annoying kids meet another annoying kid, but unfortunately none of them die at the end. No thanks.

Now, all because of that stupid show they're ruining a Godzilla movie by making it about a kid instead of the actual monster. I just want the head of Toei to go and slap every person working in the "creative" roles on that movie. you'd think when basically everyone, even people who liked the 2014 movie like I actually did, were saying "There isn't enough Godzilla in the movie", they would have learned. Instead, they just heard the quieter complaints of not enough Bryan cranston from some fans, so they're just grabbing the popular b-list TV star of the moment and shoving them all over the movie.

I'm guessing Global Warming thawing King Ghidora out. Which implies they are going with the causally slaughters entire planets version.

Fair enough. Though you really should learn at some point that just because something isn't to your taste doesn't make it bad.

While Brown is on-screen in the trailer for slightly more than 30 seconds, the bulk of that is the slow build-up at the beginning with her on the roof. She has exactly one line of dialogue in it. In comparison, there is also more than 30 seconds of on-screen monsters (not even counting Rodan's shadow).

Also, if your comparison is Bryan Cranston in the first one, maybe you should remember how much he was actually in the movie.

Also also, it was Gareth Edwards' idea to limit Godzilla's screentime in the first one, in an attempt to mimic how Spielberg used the shark in "Jaws". Edwards is not involved in this one. The last movie in this franchise (the Legendary Monsterverse, that is), "Kong: Skull Island", already had much more screentime and clearer shots of the titular monster.

And to close with a side-note: It's Toho that is the Japanese studio that owns Godzilla. Toei is the studio that makes the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider shows.

Okay, I know that having Objectively Bad Opinions is kind of your thing, but how in the blue fucking hell can you dislike stuff like Jaws, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the Indiana Jones trilogy or Close Encounters?

The second Legendary Monsterverse film, Kong: Skull Island, had very rich character work, like the studio learned from its mistakes with Godzilla. So I'm hopeful the same will be true here.

Millie Bobbi Brown is amazing in Stranger Things, and while I obviously don't know how strong her material in this will be, I'm confident she'll do a good job with what she's given. I very much doubt that she'll be one of those annoying kids that have ruined movies like this in the past.

It's intriguingly surreal -- certainly the weirdest, most psychedelic film in the series. I get the sense it's deliberately ambiguous about whether its events are actually real or just the daydreams of the main child character -- sort of a different take on the premise of the previous, awful clip movie All Monsters Attack. Or at least that what we see is filtered through the boy's childlike perceptions and view of the world. Yet it's surprisingly dark and violent at the same time (although I find the action choreography weak and languid).

All that, plus a smashing theme song.
