I'm stuck on Kobali, easily my least favorite part of the game thus far. It will not advance me to "Act II." I've tried going to the missions computer, tried speaking with the general, even tried to starting over, and it just will not give me the next mission.

    Quick question.

Why does the difficulty go from 0-100 the second you hit level 60?

I was casually doing missions with my nooby set up and then as soon as i hit level 60 i was getting destroyed by everything

STO has a few ramp ups in difficulty. It occurs roughly once every 10 levels, but those are petty gentle increases. Those are really meant to test your understanding of the ship's capabilities and bridge officer abilities.

The big jumps in difficulty happen when you start playing Delta Rising missions. From here on, the game starts throwing curveballs at you with every enemy having different strengths to be countered and weaknesses to be exploited. Off the top of my mind, here are a few examples...

    * Vaadwaur have nasty long-range artillery that take a few seconds to activate but can one-shot most ships. So you have to constantly move your ship at top speed to avoid those big red circles.
    * Iconians have a bunch of gateways that either summon more Iconian ships or cause massive damage but have very low hitpoints. So you have to prioritize destroying gateways asap.
    * Tzenkenthi ships have insane bonuses when they are close together, their cruisers buff nearby ships, but they have weak forward shields. So you must make sure you never bunch them together with Gravity Wells, always target their cruisers first and attack them from the front.
    * Hur'q swarmers love to attack you from behind, so escorts who use cannon weapons will need to figure out a way to either shake them loose or somehow quickly turn around to engage them. Most other ships have a slightly easier time handling the swarmers with beam fire at will or using mines.

Also... If you can post your ship build, we can take a look and suggest potential ways for easy improvements to your ship.

I did some reading and figured out that my ship setup sucked so ove gone for a cheap plasma beam boat for the time being, it's getting me through while i save for better gear

What ship are you using? Are you a engineer, science or tactical officer?

The nice thing about STO is you don't need expensive gear to get strong. Many post-Delta Rising featured episodes provide you with solid end-game gear. And there are a lot of cheap buys on the exchange these days.

There's also a brand new executive producer helming the game.

I find this to be more significant as Cryptic always gets a suitable EP to manage different phases of the game. For example, they had an EP manage the subscription-to-f2p transition. Once the transition is complete, they changed EP again. When they needed to add longevity to the game, they got the f2p transition EP back to add stuff like reputation factions, specializations and raise the level cap. Then they changed to the current EP who has helmed the game since Delta Rising.

For them to change an EP now means they are now suggests the game has yet again shifted to a new phase. It's clearly got to do with Star Trek's revival with Discovery. My guess is the new EP is tasked to draw in a lot more new players, have lots of tie-ins with Discovery and whatever new series CBS will be making over the next few years.

According to his Linked In (I wanted to see what else he's worked on), he's actually been EP since December, though that could have just been when he was hired, not when he took on the full job, that would have been this week I guess.

I wonder whether we get to fly any of the Discovery era ships as regular playable?, because Crossfield and Walker are already Lock Box rewards.

I imagine the Walker/Crossfield/Sarcophagus were Lockbox/Lobi because they are the hero ships, people would want them more. I'd imagine they'll stick the minor ships in the C-Store.

I wonder what the Starter ship for the DSC Fed captain is. I hope it's the Shepard.

He did mention somewhere that he spent the last 6 months familiarizing himself with the game and the team.

Ugh. I wonder if there's a way to opt out of a update? :)

I kid. I actually own both a Crossfield and Walker called Fidget Spinner and Orville resp.
I wanted a Crossfield so I could take the mushroom drive for my Enterprise J (USS Clarkson) but sadly it doesn’t spin.

I just really hate the new Klingons. If they gave you a option to use the era accurate ones, it would be way better.

You’ve been able to make flat headed Klingons since AOY.

Also the DSC era captain is Fed only AFAIK, so you don’t need to worry, they won’t be forcing you to use the DSC Klingon look.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if they made the DSC look an unlock or a purchase of some sort for Klingon players.

I mean in the story mode that you have to fight those terrible new Klingons.

Yeah, but you're killing them and blowing up their ships.

This way you can take your frustration out on the design.
