I hope Cavani recovers in time for the QF. Sad to see Ronaldo exit the World Cup. Messi looked like he prefered playing for Barcelona over Argentina on any day.

Spain vs Russia coming up next. I think Spain will edge out the Russians. Hopefully.

Not a viewpoint I could ever see myself agreeing with...

    Well to each his own.

Agreed. There have been some fabulous goals in this tournament, but (IMO, anyway) none better than Cavani's in that game. Both quite brilliant.

I just hope Cavani recovers in time for the match against France.

Messi & Ronaldo have never scored a knockout stage goal in the World Cup and never will as I assume neither will play in 2022. I think Ronaldo will play in the 2020 Euro's but I think Messi will retire from Argentina and decide not to play on in the next Copa America.

Uruguay will need Cavani if they're going to have any hope of beating France. I think he'll be back.

Supposedly this was Messi's final World Cup, but if he keeps himself in shape it's possible he could still be in good enough condition to go again in 2022, though he'd be 35 by then. Ronaldo is already 33, but he's such a freak of nature and keeps himself in such good shape, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he comes back for one more go in 2022.

Messi could have played for Spain had he chosen to do so, many years ago. I appreciate that he decided to represent his country of birth and where he spent his early years, but I sometimes wonder if he regrets not choosing Spain. Barcelona took him in and paid for his medical treatments when no Argentinian team would or could, and he's lived there now far longer than he lived in Argentina.

I do think Messi feels more at home in Spain than in Argentina.

I never cared about Messi ou Christiano Ronaldo, the mediatic treatment of both of them is probably responsible of that.

I bet on Russia today. I can't stand the spanish team and I would even welcome some russian irregularities over a spanish victory

... and the doping nation wins....

Spain performed not well enough, though.

I'd rather root for England and Southgate than for doping nation to be sure.

Works for both teams (and probabbly a lot of teams).

Apparently, Spain is not very liked in my neighborhood

Problem with doping is: even if they are caught they are allowed to return after three month of ban. Or it is all covered up. The German doping with Warsteiner beer didn't work, though.... ;)

This half of the bracket is so much more interesting than the other half. Belgium and Brazil are probably going to win tomorrow, which would mean one of Uruguay/France and Belgium/Brazil will go to the final. Out of those four, I hope Belgium goes through. They look really strong and they also haven't won the World Cup yet, so that's a bonus.

Meanwhile on this half of the bracket, only England have won the World Cup previously. I like this English side, but I'd still prefer a new winner. I think Belgium vs. Colombia would be a fun final.

Knowing my luck ENG will reach the final after finally winning a World Cup penalty shootout in the semi finals against Russia and then we would lose the final :sigh:

Croatia scores after only 3 mn. 1-1.

I feel like this game may have a lot of goals.
