I love this thread in the TOS forum. I figured I'd open it up in the movie forum. I've got two from TWOK: 1. Earlier in the film, the TMP lighting effect is visible in the warp intermix chamber. However, during Spock's death scene, the effect in the background has changed and it is just a series of static, shimmering lights inside the tubes. 2. On the bridge, there is an indicator light-up next to the turbolifts that say "inoperative below C deck". I thought that was a nice touch.
Star Trek V: 1. While the shuttle is returning from Yosemite, Scott says "You're doing just fine" and, the camera picks up the background. There's two crew members in a second-level observation room along the starboard side. Thought that was pretty cool 2. You can see "NCC-1701-A" etched beautifully into the metal water bottles Kirk brings back to the ship from camping. 3. Tire tracks are visible in the dry lake bed that the movie opens in, with J'onn succumbing to Sybok.
Just have one off the top of my head from TMP: When the bridge crew and the ship is righting itself after the destruction of the asteroid, you can see the ship's artificial horizon leveling out at the top of the frame in the wide shot of the bridge.
A list of cool tidbits it took me years to spot, or that I only saw when it was pointed out here or elsewhere online: Kirk has a Commodore PET in his apartment in STII: TWOK. Some like to think it's just another of his antiques, but I think it's masquerading as a 23rd century PC. There's a copy of Flight magazine in the spacedock observation lounge in STIII: TSFS, right next to an ashtray. It's just as Janice has her cameo. At the end of STIV, when you see a brief external shot of the travel pod floating around, It's a still photo of the cast from the travel pod sequence slotted into the model. It wasn't until the DVD that I realised what Kirk sits on in the brig in STV: TFF is the toilet, complete with "Do not flush while in spacedock" sign. Kirk's quarters in STVI are littered with references to the previous Treks, including a plaque with whales on it, a model of the classic Enterprise and a photo of David Marcus. There's a screen in STVI showing a deck plan of the torpedo launchers and storage. It's one bay feeding both launchers, with tubes in a V-shape. None of the fan-made Enterprise-A deck plans reflect this layout. The Armagosa Observatory in ST: GEN has TOS-style consoles, communications points and screens. In NEM, the scene where we meet Shinzon for the first time, there are Borg alcove parts lining the shadowy walls.
I noticed last night in Generations, Kirk has a bat’leth on the wall above a picture of the TOS Enterprise in his log cabin.
In Star Trek V: When Uhura is communicating with Paradise City "Can you try boosting your power? We're barely receiving transmission" you can see the upgraded version of the iconic earpiece, and it has little blinky lights on or in it.
One that popped to me in the past few years is in TMP is that after the Enterprise is drawn inside V'Ger, there's a quick shot from Kirk's PoV of the viewscreen with Sulu and DeFalco in the foreground that's a dead ringer for a frequently-used stock shot in TOS. Sulu and DeFalco even look at each other in concern, similar to how Sulu looks back at the camera in the TOS shot. It's probably more a coincidence than a deliberate nod, but I get a kick out of it.
I remember the first time I noticed both the TOS style wall communicators and consoles on Armagosa I thought it was truly awesome, loving the subtle suggestions that the observatory has been out there doing its thing since way back in TOS
http://movies.trekcore.com/gallery/albums/tmp2/tmphd0217.jpg In TMP, the UFP/HQ symbol on the marble floor of STARFLEET is not actually tiled in, but rather separate plastic sheets lined up, on the floor! Had not noticed that, before, because you can see the seams if you look at it, up close. It's still a cool shot and the best version of the UFP logo the franchise has ever had.
There is a brief frame or two in the shot in TMP when Kirk disembarks from the air tram at Starfleet HQ, where you can see a film crew member wearing a silver satin crew jacket, just behind the elevator bank structure as the camera pulls back from the tram (and extras walk by).
In Star Trek 5, only noticed on a recent rewatch, the scene where Uhura makes her entrance onto the bridge, two crewmen resting in their chairs with their feet up on a console, only to quickly scramble to their feet and 'look busy' as she approaches
It's FLIGHT INTERNATIONAL. King Daniel Beyond once identified the specific issue, it's for the week ending 26 June 1980. Cover scan here.
Never noticed this till just the other day when it was pointed out in another thread: In TMP you can see the nacelle out the windows of the rec room during the vger briefing. This led to the revelation that the model has matching windows in the starbord rear of the saucer, and the port rear windows are different.
