New uniforms in Season 2 Trailer

I bet that the TOS inspired uniforms are for the Enterprise only. I bet the Discovery stays with the uniforms established last season.

Well it literally says Enterprise on the concept art.

 

To explain it in universe, sure. But I don’t think we’ll see Burnam et al permanently in them anytime soon.

 

I hope TOS unis make it to discovery sooner vs. later.

 

According to David Mack's novel, the Constitution fleet gets its own uniforms different from the rest of Starfleet. So, in the event we do see another Constitution in Disco, their crew could be wearing these TOS-ish uniforms too.

 

Really that's how they explained it. Why not just have the a class A and class B uniforms? Discovery's should be the class A sense most of the fleet use's them and the ones on the Enterprise are the more casual class B that some Captains like better. They did this in the TNG time frame with the DS9 and Next Gen uniforms so why not here.

Did the novel say they had their own uniforms, or just that they got them first?

For some reason I thought it said Connie crews just got them first.

 

How much do you want to bet that by the end of season 2, everyone will be wearing those uniforms?

 

I agree with those who think they look really great in all but the silly shoulder bands. It almost seems like the costume is trying really hard to convince others (or themselves) they were a good artist choice to begin with.

Right, I have read that and thought it was clever. Same for the explanation of why the Enterprise didn’t have the proto hologram and just used the main viewer.

And yet, I still don’t think we’ll see the Discovery crew in full time TOS colors.
But I also think we collectively are putting a greater importance on the canon status of the novels. The Harberts and Berg aren’t beholden to them.

 

Source material should never be held to the supplemental material. That's how The Last Jedi happens.

Interesting to compare the Discovery uniforms to the TOS uniforms and the Kelvin universe uniforms.

Perhaps Mr. Mack can chime in here, but didn't he say that the crews of Constitution class ships wear The Cage uniforms? These new uniforms I'm seeing aren't The Cage uniforms.
