    Oh, another film.

    Nope, no enthusiasm whatsoever...

Well, in the interest of balance, not everyone will view this as good news.

I was really hoping the JJverse was done and that the mooted Tarantino movie would be a complete change. This looks like a continuation.

That should say "First Female Movie Director in Franchise's History," because we've had TV episodes directed by Gabrielle Beaumont, Hanelle M. Culpepper, Roxann Dawson, Kim Friedman, Allison Liddi, Nancy Malone, Gates McFadden, and Lee Rose.

Looking over SJ Clarkson's resume, this will be her first feature film.

    Interesting.

Seems like Paramount is between devil and angel with these rumors about Tarantino and now this female director. I'll wait for something more definitive and official.
And I hope she doesn't direct the kirk's dad is back script.

Sure, not everyone will see the possibility of more movies of this trek as good news, everyone is entlitled to their different opinions.. however, to be fair, going to a kelvin trek fan board only to comment reasonably good news for its fans with a 'oh no I hoped they'd kill this trek for good because I hate it' may be a tad controversial...

Personally, I'd find it egocentric to want something to stop existing only because I'm not interested about it. With such logic, some franchises that have many fans should get deleted only because I don't get their success or they aren't my cuppa. What you gain from that? It's not like you are forced to watch these movies, anyway.

And I'm unsure how the demise of this trek would necessarily give hope to those trek fans like you who want a different direction. I have a feeling that, either way, you wouldn't get what you want EVEN it there was no more of this trek. However, getting more of this trek doesn't prevent them to do more with trek in general. The opposite.

I love the choice of director! She's got a lot of good stuff under her belt, and it would be great if this is her big break into features. While I'm not the biggest fan of the Kelvin timeline, this certainly isn't bad news.

Fair points, and although the demise of Kelvin Trek with no replacement wouldn't upset me in any way, the Tarantino project had given me some cause for optimism.

To be honest, I'm more than happy with Discovery and something that appealed to me on the big screen would just be a bonus.

The choice of director seems solid given what she has worked on, not a fan of the George Kirk time travel script tho

I've only seen her episodes of Jessica Jones and Orange is the New Black and the Defenders. While I'm not a fan of The Defenders, I do like JJ and Orange so this news excites me a little more. Hopefully she does a great job.

I’m interested to see what she brings to the franchise, plus I can’t wait to see the crew again. It will be a little sad that Checkov will probably not be in it for obvious reasons. :(

I really, really hope they don't recast Chekov. I loved Anton in the role.
Hoping for Jaylah to return as well.

All in all, good news though. Life on Mars and Hustle are two of my favourite shows.

I hope they don't recast Chekov either. I want a nice little honor mention of him (promotion and reassignment to the Reliant would be absolutely lovely) and then bring back Jaylah and/or Carol, cuz the Enterprise is in need of some more full-time female representation, without being written as 'the girlfriend' in my opinion.

    I doubt that, somehow.
