So did I, but I went back to give it another shot, figuring that my failure to like it was also my fault because of expectations as a Trekkie. And now I like it. It's pretty much the most solid season 1 since TOS, imo.
Of course it's Star Trek. It says so right on the label. It's just not any good. You know, kind of like how Red White & Blue was beer and McDonald's toadburgers are beef.
I'm on episode 10 and still don't like this show. It has the best production values I've ever seen. The VFX are nearly movie quality to me. I think it has some great sci-fi concepts. I don't like any of the characters besides Tilly. But the one thing I can't get past is the dialogue. It's the worst I've heard in Trek. I'm determined to finish out the season, in the next couple of days, but I can't see myself watching this show season 2.
I highly recommend watching "Spock's Brain" or "The Q and the Gray" after finishing up Discovery for some other great dialog. Trust me, DISCO has nothing on that. Not saying that you have to watch Season 2, just find it amusing that somehow this dailog is "the worst" when Trek has offered some truly awful moments.
I'll never deny that previous iterations of Trek had bad dialogue moments, bad dialogue episodes even. But for me this is the first time a whole series, thus far, has had poor dialogue.
Honestly, based on some of the stuff that’s coming out of WonderCon, I’m not sure I’ll be back for Season 2. They’re only one season in thus far and already it sounds like they’ll be playing Trek’s Greatest Hits.
