It wasn't boosting, just bouncing. The problem was that the blue star was blocking them from line of sight with Fort Rozz, so they needed to carom the signal off of some sort of reflector to get around it. A bit iffy that the angles would work out, but the Voyagers are far enough from the Sun that I can basically buy it.

And it's Brainiac 5, or Brainy, or Querl Dox. Brainiac without a number is a distinct, villainous character.

I still don't think the geometry works out. The distance from earth to Voyager 1 is infinitesimally small compared to the distance from Voyager 1 to Fort Rozz. So even if it the bounce was at a right angle, I doubt it would "get around" the blue star. Think of it like trying to bounce a ball from your living room off your front door to hit something 10 miles away behind a building.

Oops. I guess I was being sloppy, just trying to write short hand to avoid writing out the whole name and number. But you are right. My mistake.

I always assumed it had to do with the frequency of the light, and kryptonian physiology can only absorb a certain range, thus it wouldn't matter if light outside that range was stronger.

I think there was a comics storyline in the '00s or thereabouts where it was established that blue star light did enhance Superman's powers and even gave him a new one -- "Superman Vision," the ability to fire eye beams that would endow someone else with Superman-like powers. It was probably some Grant Morrison thing, since it sounds crazy enough.

Yeah, as much as this series is so different than any "Super" productions before, when it borrows, its usually in-your-face.

Honestly, who would trust Livewire? Not only was she superpowered but was constantly trashing males as worthless, no matter species, which makes her anything other than the "hope for redemption" person Supergirl seemed to think she was.

Yep. It was Plotting by Convenience just to find a reason for this "road trip."

That was the showrunner's other "justification" for the "road trip"--and to send the message that men need not apply, with Livewire's man-hating/man-belittling comments the icing on that sad cake.

Yeah, that was pretty much 1965 science poured through the filter of the original Lost in Space. It was that obviously nonsensical.

Psi was the most compelling character in the hour (with the exception of the Challenge of the Super Friends-like bickering with Livewire). If written properly (like give her a purpose other than manipulation), she might be someone worth revisiting.

The more I look a Brainiac, the more he looks like an Andorian without blue skin and antennae. Don't Coluans look like humans? There's no reason to put that much makeup on Jesse Rath, imho.

Edit: Okay, I just checked Wikipedia and realized Coluans are green-skinned.

Not all Coluans have green skin, even in the comics.

Brainiac-8, AKA Indigo, has turquoise/bluish skin in the comics.

His makeup is based on that used for Indigo in season 1, although lighter-hued and with blue forehead lights in a straight line instead of red ones in a triangle. They're both Brainiacs, both Coluans, so it stands to reason they'd have similar makeups.

Well I caught up with Supergirl. Respect for Bon Jovi my favorite band.

However in the Fort Rozz episode I don't get Livewires hatred for men where she makes a remark about the dead male alien.

I'm pretty sure if genders were reversed and the remark were about women rather than men then I'm pretty sure the show and network would be dealing with a whole load of feminist's and sexist backlash.

This is kinda was what was starting to turn me off the show. This isn't female empowerment by portraying strong, independent women. Its a more than that and as I said above if this show had genders swapped and treated women in such a way with those comments the network would be getting an ear bashing.

Now you could say it is turnabout as women have been portrayed and misrepresented in all areas for a long time, but lets not forget that a learning from the past and not repeating its mistakes equals progress. Repeating the mistakes of the past does nobody any good.

I'm all for Strong female leads but Supergirl sadly doesn't seem to be able to portray without having to belittle men with sexist comments.

Also what exactly is Mon-el's superpowers ?. He doesn't appear to have any of the powers his comics counterpart has. He power seems to be the ability to charm women.

There's a saying I've heard from time to time: Men are afraid women will laugh at them. Women are afraid men will kill them. Think about that before you decide which sex is being mistreated.

There's also this thing about sexual harassment where if its a women its harassment and serious but a man should accept it as flirting.

I fail to see your point.

Sexism/Sexist comments whether you're male or female is still sexist.
Regardless of how 1 gender has been mistreated in the past, it DOES NOT make it right to turn the tables and accept it in the present.

If people want equality then you treat others as how you wish to be treated.

The quote is attributed to the novelist Margaret Atwood. She supposedly asked her male friends what they feared most and her female friends the same.

In looking up the quote, I found an interesting review of a scifi/fantasy novel .

    https://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2017/10/what-if-women-had-the-power/543135/

The reviewer had a certain take on power imbalances.

"One of the most succinct definitions of sexual harassment I’ve read over the past few weeks goes like this: For men, it’s anything they might say to a woman that would make them uncomfortable if it were said to them, but in prison. It’s glib, sure. But it gets at the fundamental imbalance of power that characterizes relationships between men and women. "

As for Leslie's comments re the dead (presumably male) alien... I suspect the woman was whistling past the graveyard. She's scared and trying her best not to show it.

I have more issues with a)Fort Roz orbiting a blue star after getting tossed into space a year ago... and b)Earth being able to "talk" real time with our ladies in another solar system without a time lag. Doesn't it take over 13 minutes for a message to travel from Earth to Mars!!!!!

Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.

And that failure is a problem you should apply yourself to correcting. "I fail to understand" does not make you the one in the right -- it makes you the one who needs to try harder to understand. Until you do understand a point of view different from your own, you're not qualified to judge its validity.

Of course that would happen, but that's the order of the day, so on this series, a pattern of attacking.belittling males is A-Ok.

Well said--reverse anything is not advocating equality at all, and historically, never reaches what it set out to accomplish. No rational, honest mind will consider Cat's various misandrist lines during her time on the show, to, Livewire's clearly hateful comments to be representative of female empowerment at all. I'm biracial (black/white), but not once will I resort to belittling white people as if that is some empowering mindset, believing its some irrational notion of correcting the sins of the past regarding the long, terrible abuse of my family and ancestors at the hands and institutions of oppressors (or alternatively, used as a defense mechanism), as its (ultimately) psychologically destructive, and offers no internal support for dealing with the realities of life.

Exactly. I've used the series Criminal Minds as an example before and will do so again in that it has always had great female lead characters and guest stars on the series in strong roles, but in its 13 seasons, not once did the show runners feel the need to belittle men in some childish, revenge-motivated manner to make females appear strong. Both series are works of fiction, yet its clear one mirrors reality more than the other in its handling of gender.

Pretty much that. When first introduced on the show, he was apparently super-powered, but this "progressive" series sees fit to play into the very stereotypes it claims to avoid by making him a long-overused soap-opera "toy" for female viewers and serving an equally soap-opera-esque running plot of Kara longing for him.
