Hi @MatthewRodriguez48 ! Just to let you know, we have a forum here dedicated to gaming. Since this might be a better fit there, I'm going to go ahead and move it for you.

I'm not a huge gamer, but the Mass Effect series is pretty awesome.

Mass Effect is my favourite for story, it's like Star Trek, Star Wars & Babylon 5 all made a beautiful baby ;) despite the mixed results from the last act of ME3.

The Last of Us is probably the closest video games will get to something akin to Oscar bait level writing (if gaming had such awards) because it's simply an emotional journey second to none.

Uncharted 2 was basically the video game version of Indiana Jones with a fun, witty and epic script.

The Force Unleashed had the best script for any Star Wars game IMO and the ending is kick ass.

The best of all time, for plot? I’d have to say Blood by monolith games. The tag line was Blood: spill some, same as the playing instruction.

Mass Effect 1 and 2, especially 2, gold standard, gold fucking standard.

For any RPG fan that's never played Mass Effect 2, needs to get on that quick sticks, every side story will blow your mind.

Mass Effect was pretty good and so was Assassin's Creed Origins. I also liked Frontlines Fuels of War story.

I know ME3 ending gets hammered and rightly so though I feel it only needed tweaks to sort out so many issues rather than a total re write. The other 95% of the game (story included) is outstanding and that trilogy is breathtaking at times.

    I agree on all points.
I love the first 3 ME games, I'd put them right up there with Star Trek and Star Wars as some of the best sci-fi out there.
The Last of Us's quality goes video games, it is one of the best entertainment experiences I've ever had.
I loved the stories for all 4 of the Uncharted games.
The Ratchet & Clank games don't necessarily have the deepest stories, but they are a lot of fun, and have some great characters.
The second and third Jak (& Daxter) games had surprisingly deep and slightly dark stories for platformers.
The Marvel and DC Lego games actually have some really fun stories, I thought they all managed to do a great job of tying together dozens of heroes, villains, and locations into coherent stories.
The Infamous games also had some pretty good stories, with the third game as the standout.

Final Fantasy Tactics. An epic fantasy with a large cast of complex three dimensional characters and a plot focused on political intrigue. The Game of Thrones of video games.

StarCraft. An epic science fiction story with a large cast of complex three dimensional characters and a plot focused on political intrigue (I think you're beginning to see my preferences here.). Just pretend the second one doesn't exist.

Nothing else compares to those games, but there are some runner-ups.

WarCraft III (Starcraft in a fantasy setting, but not quite as good)
The Phoenix Wright series. (It's a visual novel, so the story has to be good)
The Blackwell Series (ho-hum plot, but strong characters drive it)
Final Fantasy VI (a bit simple, but impressive for a 3MB SNES cartridge)

In terms of pure story movie-like experiences, both The Last of Us and Uncharted series.

Some good examples have been given already.

    I'd add Planescape: Torment.

I'm not a big gamer by any means, but I prefer open-world games that let me do my own thing. I can get in more than enough trouble on my own without someone else scripting it for me.

I do too. LOZ: Breath of the Wild is just so fun to play and it's nice to play a game that isn't so linear.

On the other hand, the first two games of the Golden Sun series are really cool. Some of the better story telling that I've seen in years. Sometimes things would happen that would be unexpected and at times peoples actions truly did have consequences.

Mass Effect 1 has the best story in gaming history, period.

Man, I want so badly, so badly to get this game to function on Windows 7 and I just can't :(

It was the entire reason I got into Star Trek, I didn't really know what Star Trek was and my uncle gave the game to me as a gift and that was it.

A superb game from start to finish, my favorite of all time.

There was a PS2 port. I find the controls were not mapped as well, but at least it still plays on a PS2.
