Yeah, I like the new lay-out for the covers. Especially like that it now says "DC Universe" on the covers. And it really was time to leave the "Rebirth" brand behind before dragging it out like they did with the "New 52" (how long did they keep that on the covers?).
The only downside is that they now leave the story titles off the cover. I found that quite helpful when sorting my books and borrowing story arcs to friends.

Pretty much the same sale as on Black Friday, so if you missed out then, now's your chance!

Almost 3 and a half years!

It feels like good timing to do away with the Rebirth branding with Doomsday Clock taking things to the next step.

Anyone got a recommendation for a Rebirth title that had a solid run throughout?

I'm up to date with Green Lanterns, Wonder Woman, AC and DC and Batwoman. I'm definitely planning on filling out the Batman run, and might pick up the Metal event thingy, but I'm also looking for one or two Rebirth runs to binge. Was thinking along the lines of Aquaman, Green Arrow, Birds of Prey, Hal & GLC or Justice League, but could be sold on others.

Superman is fun, though there was a 2-part filler inbetween somewhere which was basically just pure US patriotism with history lessons and all that brought everything to a grinding halt. But that really was just the 2-parter, everything else in that book was quite good. Super Sons is great fun, as well.

New Super-Man started off rather badly, but has grown into a really good title telling the adventures of not just the Chinese Super-Man, but the growing Justice League of China, that is very much worth the read.

Supergirl, The Flash, Titans, and Justice League of America are all pretty good.

So I don't usually buy Batman (because yawn), but I'm picking up this month's issues because of the Superman and Lois Lane appearances, and it occurred to me: What is with the modern business of Batman being perpetually unshaven? What eight-year-old's idea of gritty and manly and tough and grimdark was that?

I think that is always just one day of stubble because Bruce Wayne goes to work the next morning with a shaved face--or maybe he doesn't anymore--I'm a few years behind on Batman.

Being unshaven makes more sense than a Batman who somehow manages to be cleanly shaven every time he needs to avert some crisis. Personally, I usually have a few days growth going when I'm not sporting s beard. Most of my friends are the same as well.

I've actually really been enjoying Batman lately. The current relationship status change has made for some great stories. I'm really enjoying the "Superfriends" story and Batman Annual #2 was fantastic. Great story and some great art by Lee Weeks.

So we've pretty much come full circle to the pre-New 52 design and character.

YES! Finally, he's back. I don't care if some people don't like it, the trunks are iconic and honestly the suit just looks better with that red breaking up the blue. Who cares if its a bit silly, its Superman. If you want some gritty realistic hero, go somewhere else. I'm really hyped to see this return.

One of the rare times where we actually agree. The trunks are a bit silly, but they are such an iconic part of his character that it just felt strange for him to not have them. They also a nice bit of extra color to the costume.

I don’t hate the trunks but I was perfectly happy with he look they’re using right now. I was kinda hoping the look would stick.

Dammit, looks like 2010. I'm quitting comic books again now.

In other news it looks like the LSH and JSA are coming back soon.

Can they do Legion right this time?

What I term as right is the shipping. they're all hooking up and getting married and we see their relationships evolve... At least that's what I remember the 1970s legion to have been...

Of course an evolution of that today would see non heteronormative relationships and non binary relationships, so they're going to have a lot of orgies on the way to figuring out which groups of people like which other groups of people lovingly.

I generally don't give a shit about shipping/romance in comics, but in the last Legion book I remember when Shadow Lass broke up with Mon-El to screw an almost literal Nazi (just replace wanting genocide for certain types of humans to wanted to kill all aliens). I'm talking about a guy who would kill her without thinking if he needed too and was basically being brainwashed into being a member of the team (well, at least controlled to not kill any of the team members) because the government in the LoSH universe was half run by the same anti-alien facists. I really like Paul Levitz, but part of the last Legion book were shit. Same with his run on the New 52 World's Finest book. its like characters he wrote amazingly in the 70s and 80s he just should never have touched again (although I blame the New 52 editors for most of World's Finest's problems, like Power Girl being introduced into the New 52 as a brain dead bimbo in the shutty Mr. Terrific book forcing that characterization to be continued by Levitz in World's Finest).

As for other stuff coming back, DC should never be allowed to publish a story with the original Captain marvel again after how badly Geoff Johns fucked over the character, and while the JSA is my favorite superhero team there isn't a single comic writer working at DC who I'd trust with them. Really, until DiDio the dumbass retires or gets fired DC should just leave some characters alone.

That's too funny! But what made the early 80s Legion great was that it was one of the first DC comics to run a truly serialized story. Relationships and subplots ran through multiple issues and years, and often subplots became major turning points after years in the making. It was a truly fine use of the comic book form.
