So I've been seeing a lot of discussion of Discovery potentially finding its future home within the Terran universe (atleast partially). I was kind of intrigued by this notion as we only had 8 or so episodes within the prime universe.

Most of Trek following the conclusion of ENT has taken place outside of the prime timeline. If the show were to root itself within the mirror universe moving forward, we likely wont get much expansion within the prime universe.

With that being the case, I can't help but feel like this is kind of becoming a crutch (again under the assumption that this will happen). If we keep down this path then every show is gonna be semi-isolated, existing in its own canon essentially.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing and learning about the mirror universe, but I felt much more at home and eager to learn about events within the prime timeline just as much if not more.

Does anyone else have similar concerns, or are you excited to potentially dive deep into the mirror universe?

I've voiced my displeasure of DSC heading into the mirror universe too quickly - before fuller exploration of the characters and their interrelationships. I'm not a fan of MU episodes and feel they've been explored enough in ST lore. I don't care enough about the characters yet, but I'm expected to form deeper connections to them, based on what, mirror evil versions of themselves (or how they deal with adversity in the MU). Make me care about the original characters first. I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

I do not think they will stay, but they may end the season there.

As much as I'm enjoying the MU episodes, I don't want them to stay permanently. It will get stale after a while.

Agreed, but they have been super strong and I simply love this take on the MU. I do not however, want to see it long term.

I don't think they'll stay in the MU forever. Instead, on the way back, Stamets takes a right at Albuquerque and they end up in Robauland.

It's nice to not actually have a very simple solution to get back within one episode, and the idea of them actually struggling and finding some big fucking hurdles to overcome, is something I've enjoyed. But yeah, they either end up back in Prime at the end of this season or the first episode of season 2. Because a whole show set in the MU with a Prime ship and crew is kinda boring.

I'm hoping for a short stay in the MU. If I want to see ruthless people behaving in short-sighted, destructive ways, all I need to do is check on the real life news. I want to see better from ST.

I kind of expect that tomorrow's episode will end with them leaving the mirror universe. Seems like there's plenty of things in the prime universe to wrap up in the last three episodes.

I can’t decide how I feel about that possibility. It could happen. The different realities are intertwined.

Yeah I don't think they stay either however, entirely possible Stamets is able to talk to Mirror Stamets for the rest of his life. Can totally see them doing this. The devil on Stamets' shoulder.

There's only one Captain Robau in the entire multiverse. His mind is strong enough to be in all the universes at the same time.

They can stay in MU, join the Rebellion, bring the hope, fight against the Empire for 4 or 5 seasons...

    Sorry, wrong franchise!

The mirror universe is a fun place to visit, but I wouldn't want them to stay there.

I do wish they weren't in their weird half-rewritten version of the prime universe though, where they ignore huge important things previous shows established and then let murdering psycho Harry Mudd off with a slap on the wrist so Harry can appear in TOS... it's stupid. Just do your own thing.

No, but I'm not sure they'll be returning to exactly the same place they came from either.

Since the show runners have said repeatedly that they're going to wrap up these arcs by the end of the season and go in a new direction for season two, I don't think this is at all even worth speculation

If you're going to permanently set a series in The Mirror Universe, it makes more sense to start it there to begin with.

I think the main purpose for being in the MU might've already been revealed. "What is the key to making peace with the Klingons?" Uniting them and then establishing terms with them as an entire people. I say "establishing terms" because there'll always be at least some undercurrent of tension and hostility -- war or no war -- until at least TUC.

Another thing to consider: If the Mirror Discovery is in the Prime Universe, that has to be seen and addressed. You don't just mention it and then not do anything with it.

They are not staying in MU. There is still the war to resolve and based on what we are seeing, Burnham is going to learn more about how the klingons are getting along with other races in the MU and use that information in the prime universe to put an end to the war.

I think 2 more weeks in MU then final 2 episodes back in Prime ending the war.
