Well, count me in the minority as well, because I really like them. Tyler's hot and Burnham has never been in love. They both have somewhat muddied pasts. I always find it unrealistic when it takes two people who are obviously attracted each other seasons and seasons to get together. It used to be the trope in TV and I get it, but unless there's some utterly compelling reason they can't get together, people who are mutually attracted to each other usually don't fight it (I mean, why would they?).

I also like both actors and characters. It made sense to me that they were drawn together and I do wonder if now that Tyler knows he's Voq if that's it or if Tyler's personality isn't going to go away that easily and he'll have lingering feelings for Burnham. If that's true, I can see her being conflicted, too. I'm interested to see where it goes.

I think a lot of the chasteness had to do with Tyler believing he'd basically been raped for the last year. I imagine that would make him cautious, and would make Burnham want to tread carefully with him. It also tracks with Burnham's character's Vulcan upbringing. Since she's human and not subject to Pon Farr, I imagine she approaches relationships with Vulcan reserve.

Agreed. Since this was a first for her, it makes sense that there's a little awkward stumbling.

It was great during the dance scene in Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad, but it fizzled in their Despite Yourself bed scene. Neither of them seemed into it. (Be nice to me. It's my first comment.)

Honestly Stamets is fast becoming one of my favorite characters in Trek as a whole and his relationship with Culber is much more emotional, at least in my opinion. To me, Burnham's relationship with Tyler ended up feeling like a `just kind of happened` sort of situation. I understand they helped each other to some extent, but I never felt along for the ride when they interacted with eachother.

With that said, I do enjoy Burnham and Tyler's character development individualy. So my comments only refer to their relationship.

I couldn't have said it better.

Burnham's first love was her career. Ash/Voq was the rebound relationship. So Saru, watcha doing tonight?

This is understandable, but if you're going to do such a hesitant, emotionally subdued romantic relationship, why even bother at all? They worked better as friends than anything, and given the lack of passion in the relationship, it didn't give much of an emotional oomph to Tyler's eventual heel turn.

Once he killed Culber I viewed him through that lense. The thought of having sex with someone like that turns my stomach. Michael didn't know but their tenderness toward each other was tainted.

Well, why not? I mean, it's a different approach to a relationship, but it's also one we don't see often or at all on shows (particularly when the man in the relationship is the one who's the victim of assault). I thought their attraction to each other played well, particularly in the time loop episode and the one when they were on the planet with Saru. They just had to deal with Tyler's trauma to move forward, and I thought that was nice because it showed they connected on a deeper level than just the physical. I actually bought that there was some deeper emotion behind their relationship, which might not have played as well if they'd just been tearing each other's clothes off. I actually think that's going to help sell the love triangle thing down the road because if it was just sex, we wouldn't understand why Burnham would care about him post-Voq reveal, or why he'd be torn between her and L'Rell (if that's the direction they go).

 Yeah, this tends to happen sometimes when a person actually falls in love.

Initially, it appeared to me that the relationship between Burnham and Tyler was based solely on physical attraction and devoid of any real romance. However, as some others have noted, it changed for me their feelings began to be based on their mutual trauma, Burnham with losing her career, reputation, and freedom, and Tyler with his incarceration and torture at the hands of the Klingons. Couples helping one another with emotional pain is a worthy building block for a meaningful romance. We'll see how it goes from here.

Their confrontation on the Shenzhou was the best scene yet between the two, and one of the best of the season for SMG in particular.

Not initially, but I'm rewatching "Devil Within" and the line he gives her about her being the reason he wanted to be human kinda got me. That was sweet. I'm a bit of a suck.

On a semi-related note: Is it nuts that I rewatch every episode of Discovery? Like, happily? Is it because I've seen every other episode of Star Trek multiple times, and I wanna know DSC as much as I know the rest of the series.

Best part is, I love it more and more after every viewing.

I want voq and ash to be locked together inside that skull and engage in a rage driven revenge quest when they get back to the PU.

I love revenge stories. More than redemption stories.

No it felt forced but so did Stamets/Culber tbh. Too early in the series to truly buy any of that for me.
