AND it's here the Blizzcon announcements for the 7nth World of Warcraft expansion.

    New races you unlock!
    Horde vs Alliance reignited!
Zone scaling applied to the old continents!

    TELDRASSIL BURNED TO ASH omg..

    Aaaand Classic Server announced..

They are also doing away with PVP servers and you will be able to toggle on pvp and presumably enter into cross realm world pvp? I'm wondering what will happen to Emerald Dream the only rp pvp server which has a distinct culture. Maybe they'll leave it alone like they have with RP servers in other ways.

I'm pretty excited about this, I've always wanted the Horde vs Alliance thing to get a kick up the butt again and I really like the political world elements as opposed to the One Big Enemy.

I suspect there will still be a Big Bad later in the expansion. There is still one Old God left and we have the Naga problem that is related to it. If Sargaras is out of the picture by the end of Legion, than aside from Azeroth's private war(craft) there are only a few large local problems (that are bigger than the Alliance and Horde) and whatever it was that Sargaras feared....the Void. Of course there may be expanded Titan lore as Azeroth's own Titan grows (she's suppose to be a looker, Sargaras is smitten with her).

I'm watching Blizzcon and in the what's next vid Afrasiabi says "and with no external threat we turn our fury on each other. We fight for our faction's survival and our place in this world".. I think we may have smaller enemies, Naga leaders etc.. but I feel like one of the shake up changes for this xpac will be no Big Bad. Of course it's still likely something else will come down the pipes

I did notice that both Outland and Northrend scale from 60 - 80...so it is possible to skip Outland if you really want to and jump right to Northrend, where the questing started to get good (leaving Outland as the only oddity in WoW due to it being the only remaining Vanilla-like quest structured content). Or even doing it in reverse order, so you can defeat the Lich King and then face Illidan at the Black Temple.

There seems to be a thread through it the presentation. What does it matter who wins the war if the planet dies? Does the ending of Legion begin the potential death of Azeroth's proto-Titan? Or are we (the Adventures) the last defense she has and the continued war is only making things worse as the last Old God tries to fulfill the Void's wish to corrupt a Titan to their will and end all existence in the realm of the Light?

Remember that MoP was the exploration of a new continent with the backdrop of the Alliance and Horde War restarted as a result of the Cataclysm going full tilt? How did that go? Learning to find balance and uniting against the remains of a dead Old God that had corrupted part of the Horde.

MoD? War....possibly delayed while Azeroth fights the invasion of the Iron Horde. But their is no trust between the Alliance and Horde there, just that for the most part, our Adventurers are away from Azeroth, and thus don't know exactly what is going on while we are away. The Iron Horde is but a threat...the Legion...that is a serious problem.

Legion starts with Azeroth fighting united against the Legion. It doesn't go as well as hoped, and the unity crumbles. The Legion is still the greater threat, but it is left to the groups that are outside the main political powers to decide Azeroth's and Argus' fate. The war, stalled for a time, continues, presumably, once Argus leaves the sky.

BfA? War! Seeking out the Kingdoms that had been at least partly out of the spotlight since the Second War or Third Wars. Explore the ocean like the early days of the Fourth War up to the finding of Pandaria. (Are we still in the Fourth War, or is this the Fifth War.....Sixth War between the Alliance and Horde?) But there is almost always something else to these events. If it isn't the Legion, its the Old Gods. If it isn't the Old Gods, its the Trolls. And boy do we have Trolls going on here. If it isn't Trolls, its Naga, and Naga are tied to the Old Gods....so we are likely to get a major problem for the Defenders of Azeroth to have to deal with.

Will we still have all our titles going into this? By this point many of use are Veterans of the Wrathgate, Generals of our respective Draenor Armies, and Leader of our Class faction against the Legion. Plus we are being gifted a special artifact from the planet itself. We may not be kings nor queens of any land, but we are probably the most decorated individuals on the planet....so the locals will send us on a poop quest....right?

OMG they are starting the zone scaling in 7.3.5 !!

This should solve some of the dungeon black holes at certain levels..

And take away our titles.. they would have a mutiny on their hands  You just have to pick up that poop Mr. Justicar and LIKE IT!!

Think this will be the first expansion I don't play :(

Most of my friends have moved on from WoW and I just kind of started playing a lot more Overwatch.

tons of things - simulate year 1, year 2 timelines (sequence of patches) - which they won't do of course; the way they're going to handle dedicated servers (and server types), rollout of raids (AQ world event? they won't do that either of course); temporary textures (e.g. epic mounts, some T2 sets), Battlegrounds, yadda yadda yadda

then in a broader sense, they're bound to consider reverse-grandfathering / retconning some of the later bugfixes / quality of life changes into "pure" Vanilla, such as Pally/Shaman items not dropping for the opposing faction

it's endlessly fascinating to me because it's an unsolvable dilemma - from a game preservation standpoint, they would have to do a perfect snapshot of the original timeline of patches/releases, which is hardly feasible for what they're trying to do (and most likely also not the economically viable way to go)

Yeah....so were will the Night Elves go? Are we retaking Gilnaes so the Worgen and Night Elves can be there instead? They aren't going to reintegrate TBC starting areas into the world map I don't think.

However I do imagine that new Night Elves and Worgen will still have their tree until they reach some level were a quest will change the world (phase the tree) into cinders.

As for the Classic WoW servers, I'd actually think it be really cool if those servers could be phased (or the players quietly transferred) to any of the expansions/patches over time. Thus not forcing a Classic player to be stuck at patch 1.1.2 (end of 2004) forever. Or whatever patch they decide is the "Classic World of Warcraft" because things like battlegrounds didn't get introduced until patch 1.5 (mid-2005). AQ20 and AQ40 didn't arrive until patch 1.9 a year later at the beginning of 2006. The last "Classic" patch was 1.12.2 which came out a few months before TBC pre-patch came out at the end of 2006.

It be interesting to allow a player to temporal thingamabob their way to basically any patch era and let them run around.

Otherwise its two raids and not even all the dungeons,. plus bugs and stuff.

It's an interesting conundrum as they are going to aim to avoid fracturing the Classic community as much as possible when the initial wave of content tourists has passed, but to go the really museum-quality game preservation route they sort of would have to fracture it. They basically need to prepare for a low pop and a high pop scenario, which is why I'm also very curious how they're going to handle dedicated servers and server types (also: regionalization)

There are going to be a lot of jokes about Silithis in the near future.

Also that there is now a weapon too large for hunters to loot.

    A planet/Titan scale sword.

Also it seems we are getting a bunch of updates well before 8.0 happens. The first four or so Allied Races might come in in 7.3.5 along with the zone scaling updates and perhaps some world changes to reflect the said giant world smiting sword stuck in Silithis.

Level scaling in now a thing, as 7.3.5 is live. The sword in Silithis is truly massive. I managed to fly to the top and you can't see the ground even on high view distance. You can easily see it from the Caverns of Time and Mulgore. It looks really creapy from Uldum, and sort of epic if you can see it and the new Red Star in the sky from Ungoro Crater...if you can see past the trees.

Speaking of the Red Star (or the sealed seat of the pantheon/Argus), it looks really good with the night sky of Highmountain.

That level scaling sounds completely bonkers. I sort of want to check it out and satisfy my morbid curiosity

I'm looking fwd to the scaling. The last alts I messed around with I ended up abandoning because past changes + heirlooms meant I could barely or even finish quest lines and areas I was looking fwd to before all the quests were grey. The worst part though was the dungeons as you can of course still do those quests for minimal xp. The dungeons.. well I never even got my all time favorite to come up in random dungeons because after doing a few others i was too high ugh (it's Halls of Reflection). I just kind of got disgusted with this and didn't take that last one past 90 (a little dread of the draenor opening stuff too). I'm hoping to do a Dark Iron dwarf and would like to enjoy the trip.

GWII has much more expansive scaling, last time I played you could do everything at any level. It really opens up the leveling experience. WoW just expanding it in chunks like 40-60 is good though, you still get the experience of progressing to new lands this way.

Blizz has said the no-solo old raids thing was unintentional and they're "fixing" it. I assume this may be the thing I'm dl'ing right now which is preventing me from doing my morning coffee wow routine

And yeah @Ithekro it looks AMAZING. I am sad about Silithus as it was one of my favorite areas (I realize most people hate it). But we can still go back in time and check it out. I've been flying around killing the elites to try for the pet, haven't gotten it yet but have the journal. I collect any and all WoW ephemera so pleased with that though it's soulbound so bleh.

With everything winding up all I've been doing is PVP prestige level grinding. That and bidding on BMAH boxes. I'm working on level 20 prestige, it's pointless though the Midnight Courser does look cool.. however I've found I actually LOVE pvp these days. So I'm doing it for love :D
