Now that it's over, what did you think about the Burnham-Tyler romance? Did it touch you? How does it rate compared with other romances in Trek? Such as Paris-Torres, Riker-Troi, Jadzia-Worf, Tucker-T'Pol, Spock-Uhura?

    Nope.

Culber / Stamets have been the only couple that came across as genuinely liking each other. The Burnham / Tyler "romance" didn't come across as all that romantic. Michael remains quite emotionally stilted, and of course Tyler has that whole problem that the core of his being is Voq -- Tyler is a mask that has been grafted on IMHO.

I wasn't really a fan. I never liked Tyler, even if he was totally human.

No, Not because it wasn't done well. It was well written and all. But I'm a domestic cohabitation type, Culber / Stamets resonated and touches me much more.

That whole in "love with a broken" person thing, just isn't something that lands with me.

All I wanna be like is "Yo, what's your problem? swallow your problems and chill the fk out man"

I am normally a sap for such things, but as a subscriber to the Tyler=/=Voq theory, it made me hold back on being touched by this pairing. More than anything it made me sympathize with Burnham more because I knew that she had a major heartbreak and betrayal coming.

I thought it was okay. I think I might prefer a Burnham/Tilly romance or a Burnham/Lorca one though the second one would no doubt lead to some disturbing stuff which of course is why I want to see it. Right now the best romance is Stamets and Culber but even that one hasn't been perfect with the fact that the Culber character hasn't been giving much depth. LIke I said in another thread I actually think his death is going to end up being the best thing to happen to the character. When he comes back the character will have something to do other than be the main characters love interest or the guy who spouts medical tech stuff.

I didn't think it was supposed to be True Love as much as two lonely, damaged individuas finding temporary comfort in each other. It worked for me on that level.

You seriously think Burnham would continue a relationship with someone who has been unmasked as A KLINGON SPY? :wtf:

No, but that's my fault and not the writer's or actor's. I'm not the kind who gets touched by fictious romances. or real ones.

It felt as rushed and as forced as Trip/T'Pol Season 3. Like that relationship, I was mainly annoyed by it.

But Trip/T'Pol was redeemed by its deconstruction and reconstruction in Season 4 and became one of my All-Time Top Ships, and the same could conceivably happen here.

Not really. I find romance the least interesting part of any fiction, pretty much. It's either dull, or melodramatic. Here it was the latter.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but am I right in thinking that Tyler now knows he is Voq and is no longer Tyler? Never mind why would Burnham want to keep things going with him (I'm sure she'd be disgusted by the idea) but why would *Voq* want to? Now that Voq remembers who he is, why would he be interested in anyone from a species his people want to destroy?

To be fair, some women in sci-fi/fantasy seem to be attracted to psychopaths. Look at Padme in Attack of the Clones. She had no interest in Anakin until he admitted to slaughtering an entire village of sand people.

To address the OP's question, no. The Burnham/Tyler relationship fell flat with me. As others have said, Stamets/Culber have far more chemistry.

I feel more chemistry from Tyler/L'Rell* than Tyler/Burnham.

    * Which is messed up in all the dramatically right ways.
