Could barely see anything in the night scenes.

 

But it's nice to see the woods are still always lit by blue floodlights in their universe.

 

I recall an interview with him around the time of Jose Chung and he admitted that he actually really struggles writing and his preferred output would be one episode a year of anything. He knows he has to eat so tries his best to put out more.

I know he's only half kidding but I do recall an interview on one of the DVD box sets backing this up, so ever getting him as a show runner or consistent writer of any show is sadly unlikely to be on the cards.

I really liked this one, it had a nice tie back into the arc, the action scenes were pretty good, and we got some nice Mulder and Scully moments. The whole simulated world with real people's minds copied into it was a fun way to bring Langley back.

 

I wish they had it on TV on a night I am at home.

This is exactly what I thought about this episode. I also liked the humour. It felt like old X-Files again, more than any episode last season (except for the Darin Morgan one)

 

It was a nice one for me (my husband was complaining all the way until a few minutes before the end though). There was a plot, a typical X-files ending, much better than last season. I enjoyed it.

However, there seems to be so much action just for the action. They killed more people than in the first seasons combined. I think they are trying to fit into modern TV standards but (just like in Star Trek: DSC) that seems to make things not feel completely right. I don't think the old Mulder and Scully would be so trigger happy. Not complaining, just saying.

 

I agree that there was action for the sake of action, it felt forced, and for me it really didn't add to the urgency. It's strange that it seems to be trying to fit modern TV standards when nothing about the format is especially modern. They could slow things down a bit, flesh out the episodes concepts and build up to an exciting climax instead of acting like nameless henchmen raise the stakes.

This episode wasn't Mulder and Scully's story either, it was Langly's. I feel like it would have been a better episode if it was from his point of view. You could create a much greater sense of intrigue, Truman-Show-esque I guess, with a false start like Mulder and Scully living in a suburb like at the start of Arcadia. Langley living in the simulation, realising he's in a simulation, discovering the reason the simulation exists, accepting that it must end and contacting Mulder. There's more going on in that story than Mulder and Scully have to shut down a computer while being chased by a collection of poor mans Die Hard villains.

Also, Deepthroats grave having a QR code under a crucifix that they found through the incorrect date on a headstone seemed a bit silly.

 

I liked the episode. So now we have gotten the real names of both CSM and Deep Throat. Interesting that they are giving away all this info. I really don't like that computer Langley is left trapped inside the evil computer world but having unhappy endings are going to happen sometimes. Also had no idea the real Langley had a girlfriend. Where we supose to know who she was because I don't recall her being on the X-FIles or the spin-off in the past? I really liked the line about how they felt things were so bad back in the day and now kind of feel nostagic and the bit were Mulder was kind of right. Everything they feared in the old show has come to pass in the modern world? The conspiracy theories of America becoming super corrupt has actually happened.

That was considerably better than the premiere and a lot of fun on its own. I've largely forgotten all of the mythos of the show so I only vaguely recall Deep Throat what he was about and how the Lone Gunmen died, but it was still great to see Langley again, even if it wasn't really him.

I'm sure once I read through the comments, holes will have been poked through the episode and how it doesn't fit with the greater picture, but on the episode on its own, was a joy to watch. The banter between Mulder and Scully was particularly fun.

 

Yea that's how I'm viewing this season. I'm not taking it too seriously. Glen did a good job with the banter, respected their history along with their relationship and ignored CC's ambiguity for the most part ( they're married dammit! ) (I'm not worried about the other episodes he's working on (meaning 7 (he's directing his wife and another writer) and 8 where he's writing with James Wong)).

The story wasn't the best, but I appreciated that it didn't use nearly as much of that quick cutting nonsense that the premiere did. I really hope that MS4 doesn't employ it along with any of the other episodes.

It's very distracting and takes away from scenes. I like to watch scenes and as for fight scenes, I like to enjoy them since I view the choreography in them as a kind of dance. What they did in 'This', made the scene seem far too forced.

 

The "Long Lines" building has had a busy year, first showing up in Mr. Robot, and now X-Files.

Another series low for the x files, though ratings are still higher than the gifted. I hope this season ends with some resolution though. I doubt we'll get a season 12.

 

And I finally saw it-- On Demand had been giving me an error message when I tried to watch it before.

"Accuse your enemies of that which you are guilty." That popped up during the title sequence. Is that new and I never noticed it before? It really sums up the nature of the contemporary Culture War and is consistent with Mulder's statement that everything they had fought against coming true.

I suppose it's futile to try to make too much sense of X-Files, but that seemed especially random. Okay, Russians are operating on US soil. I get that, and it's amusing, but why are they suddenly after Mulder and Scully and why can't Mulder and Scully go back to their office and why is Skinner giving them handouts in the woods? The immediate threat seemed to be over at the end, since they went home to Mulder's cabin, but what the hell? And why was it so imperative to destroy the virtual reality server? Just because Langley Headroom asked? Or was there some other implicit threat that I missed? The basic idea of preserving humanity through virtual reality in the face of an extinction-level event seems like a pretty good one to me. Maybe they should concentrate on upgrading the simulation.

That was a nicely creepy twist ending, though. After all that-- "Destroy the backup!" And then the assassin appears. But does that mean this will be an ongoing plot thread, or was it just a twist for the sake of a twist.

It was an interesting reveal to find out that (almost) all of the X-Files have been digitized and made available online. It certainly makes sense, and seems like the right thing to do, but I'm sure there will be consequences. I've got to say, I really feel bad for Skinner. He's always caught in the middle and seems to be doing the best he can in an untenable situation-- and you know that if he tries to quit he'll end up in that Village with Patrick McGoohan.

 

Considering this is season 11 and the 2nd season of a revival, the ratings don't really matter. It's already a success. IMO their future plan might be to spin it off on the rumoured Disney streaming service with 2 new agents. I wouldn't get your hopes up for a resolution in the finale since this is Chris Carter we're talking about

Tomorrow's the night for another XF episode. Kind of excited about 'Plus One'. Just saw a new promo tonight and it honestly scared me. First time that a CC ep has done that in some time.

 

Thanks. I'm not so familiar with the original, so I wasn't sure if they did something different every week, and I have a tendency to not pay close attention to title sequences these days.

 

^ If I remember correctly, the majority of the time it was "The Truth is out there" or "I want to believe," and they'd only change it up randomly.
