Looks like it’s just two this season and in the entire run of the series.

I was never an avid X-Files fan, but made the effort to watch all the mythology episodes recently up to the latest season. I finally understand fan's ire at the direction the series took. What started as an intriguing conspiracy became a bloated mess that collapsed under its own incoherence.

As for the latest episode, we are expected to believe after all the convoluted maneuvering over the years and plans spanning millennia, Earth just isn't worth it anymore for The Colonists?

Also call bullshit on Carter knowing CSM impregnated Dana back in '99.

I think the Colonists never existed now. It was all part of a convoluted plan to throw Mulder off the path of the truth that all the alien stuff was secret government organizations. Now the aliens seemed like they showed up with good intentions and got vivisected for their trouble by CSM because ???.

Not sure how the virus figures in that when mutated causes you to turn into a jello person and an alien pops out, kills people and eventually turns into your standard Grey. I guess it's supposed to be the same one they were talking about this season, the jello person thing wasn't supposed to happen. But back then it was a secret alien trick that the Syndicate wasn't expecting.

There has only ever been five credited female writers on the show outside of Gillian Anderson herself:

Sara B Charno/Cooper (who's credited in S2 for Aubrey and The Calusari)
Marilyn Osborn (credited in S1 for Shapes)
Valerie and Vivian Mathew (credited for Sanguinarium in S4)
Jessica Scott (credited for co-writing Schizogeny in S5 with Mike Wolleager)

    6 episodes in 10 seasons.

Season 10's episodes are credited to:

    Chris Carter: 3
Darin Morgan, James Wong, Glen Morgan: 1 a piece.

Anne Simon returned as the season's science supervisor (having worked with the writing team back on the original run, figuring out how the writer's ideas could be scientifically plausible) and along with Margaret Fearon (a colleague and secondary science supervisor) were given Story Credits for My Struggle II along with Chris Carter due to how much input they had making Carter's idea work.

Karen Neilson, who is writing an episode this year, was a Script Supervisor in Season 10, not part of the writer's room. And apparently Kristen Cloke (Glen Morgan's wife) and Shannon Hamblin (Morgan's writing assistant), who are writing an episode together in S11, are doing so based on a story treatment by Glen himself.

One could readily read that Carter got a little burnt by Anderson and others comments about the lack of diversity on his show and literally grabbed the nearest 3 women to him and his team and gave them writing duties.

I hope this isnt the case and Carter chose them for their respective talents, but prior to the condemnation last year, Carter had teed up his regular all-male writing room for S11, so was falling back on old patterns and not thinking forward or out of the box.

Which has been his issue since about 2000.

I also don't buy into the idea that Carter knew that CSM was going to use alien DNA to impregnate Scully. It seems clear to me that Carter was basically trying to make the CSM evil in away that connects to issues going on right now. That's why you see him being connected to people like Trump or Putin and also bringing up sexual abuse since it's also topical and since he is your villian your going to make him evil by doing evil things.

I still don't know why being disgusted or angry is supose to be a bad thing in regards to fictional characters. Anytime a tv show can get people to really be happy or really angry at what you have seen that is a good thing. Tv shows should be trying to get people to feel things. One thing you also can't say is you didn't see it coming and how many times can tv or movies do that? We have all seen so much tv and movies we can predict just about everything because people have years of viewing experience to see patterns and the cliches while they are happening.

Of course how effective this will work depends on the payoff. If Carter drops the ball like I felt he did in last seasons mythology episodes it's going to look way worst in retrospect. If William ends up being a interesting character and CSM goes down for his crimes in a interesting way then that will make any initial disgust worth it. I also expect to see another twist built off that twist such as how Mulder is still the dad or that aliens still do in fact have interest in earth or I could even see them pull out God since we know that things like ghost and demons exist in that universe.

I stopped caring about mythology episodes the first time they did the "government is faking all of it" with that Kritschgau fellow, it just got more and more ridiculous after that, so this episode was just tedious incoherent noise to me.

I mean, the whole thing played like an angry rant about how humanity is gullible, easily manipulated and so stupid even aliens don't wanna shove probes up our bums anymore... and then in the same episode they claim the moon landing was faked, so those gullible, stupid people are actually right?

Not to mention that the whole rant about people not recognizing the truth and believing lies just sounds extremely hypocritical coming from a show that has for 11 seasons claimed every conspiracy theory ever was true...

I think the fake moon landing was basically just the show inserting some humor. Maybe even a call back to that famous CSM episode were he even did things like make sure the Buffalo Bills never win a Super Bowl or arrange who wins a Oscar.

I thought CSM faking the moon landing was funny, it's exactly the kind of conspiracy theory I expect to pop up on a show like this.

Couldn't agree more. I'm looking forward to seeing what the female writers and directors bring to Season 11. If for no other reason than to get some new blood working behind the scenes.

I do have to wonder what the show would be like if they choose to continue without Carter (and Gillian Anderson) after this season? If they were to continue without him, who do you guys think should take over?

Is it to much to dream of Vince Gilligan, taking over? James Wong I believe he is named also would be a good choice. I also wonder what kind of zanny season Darrin Morgan Jr would create.

Mmmm, I just watch the show. Any show all shows.
I've never paid too much attention to who the writer was, much less their sex.
I just see if I like the show or not.

Liked tonight's episode ok. Glen did a nice job with writing M and S and I appreciated their interactions. The episode itself was far from perfect, but I liked it far more than last week's. M and S are married, Chris Carter... so there :p.

Just looked it up! It's too funny. Bless Glen Morgan.
