Here's an oddity: sometimes in times of extreme duress, Picard sings a little song. It seems to be a family song, since Robert also knows it, so I'm guessing it is French in origin. It goes rather like this: Ba dada da dee da, bee ba bo ba bo ba bum. Does anyone know where this originated, or what the actual song is? Is it a French folk song, or just something the producers made up? I've counted it in three episodes so far: "Family", "Final Mission", and "Chain of Command, Part II".

You're not thinking of Frere Jacques that he teaches the children in "Disaster"?

In Family and Final Mission, it's a children's song called Auprès de ma blonde.
In Chain of Command, it's Sur le pont d'Avignon, on y danse, on y danse.

Wow, I didn't know it was two songs! How did you find out what they were? And of course, thanks so much for clearing this up! :)

I checked Chrissie's Transcripts Site for the lyrics he sang, and then Googled those. :)

These are very well-known French tunes. I first learned them in my Grade 4 French class.

We used to sing them in French class.
I even remember some of the words.
