Odd Behavior by the Borg ship at Wolf-359?

This is what happens when you have humans trying to write borg. They couldn't have hired a borg writer to script this episode? Sheesh!

If I remember correctly, this script was written during the Borg Writer Guild Strike ... hence the gross lack of a proper Borg perspective.

 

My theory comes down to the fact that, being cybernetic, Borg research and learn and computer operating speeds. They likely allocated one ship to be researched, using lower powered weapons to see what it could learn from partially damaging it, than finishing it off once the knowledge was gained.

 

I’d disagree. As pointed out in “Tin Man”, in the 2360’s The Excelsior class was primarily Starfleet’s taxi service for Admirals and diplomats. So Hanson being on an Excelsior ship in BOBW was more or less a regular thing.

 

Which is exactly what I'm saying, too: Admirals including Hanson like to travel on Excelsiors, meaning they are associated with specific examples, and Hanson was associated with the Melbourne. She might be his taxi in addition to being his flagship - what possible reason would he have for using separate ships for the two tasks?

Likewise, Nechayev in "Descent" arrives in an Excelsior and says she will command from the Gorkon; said Excelsior is a viable candidate for being the Gorkon. Speculatively introducing an unseen ship for the task is wrought with complications that seem unnecessary.
