I don't mean that Captain La Forge should have gone crazy like Captain Ransom but it would have been a great episode maybe even arc to finally learn what happened to Geordis mother. How would another starship slightly less advanced than Voyager (lost 2370) but more powerful (Nebula class) fare in the Delta Quadrant. Hopefully the network wouldn't step in and we see a ship like it just left dry dock...

I have a story in mind (that takes place in my rebooted version of Voyager) where after the Year of Hell the ship had to land on a planet to make repairs and deal with the injured. Whilst there the crew take shuttles out to barter for supplies and provisions they need, only to learn that they aren't the first Starfleet personnel the locals have met. After a rush to get Voyager flying again, they manage to locate Starfleet debris on the edge of a system and move in further to find a saucer crashed on the surface, where the survivors of the U.S.S. Hera have started to make a new life for themselves. The two crews spend some time together before Voyager must being on its journey back to the Alpha Quadrant, unfortunately they don't have the space to take all the survivors so must leave them behind, though a few of the Hera crew do transfer aboard to help with some essential crew shortages.

Maybe Captain LaForge would go the direction Captain Ransom went? That would certainly challenge the audience if good old Missus LaForge went baaaad.

I sometimes wish we acquired a recurring character from the Equinox episodes. Or that the Equinox episode wasn't the catalyst episode for the replacement of Kes.

Remember that ship did have a majority Vulcan crew I doubt they would allow that

I was very disappointed when the Equinox crew never showed up again. Why not do a 'seeking redemption' story? Even if it was only once, it's like a great story nearly wrote itself and they passed it up. To have the holodeck malfunction a few extra times.

I'm not sure there's any reason to make it the Hera, though. Geordi's mom only appeared in one episode and had no real development. The only reason to have her appear is if they were trying to justify a Levar Burton guest appearance.

Well, the crew could be decimated and the remaining may take a villainous turn with a tunnel vision uncompromising logic all their own. A crew of wayward Vulcans would not only provide formidable opponents for our heroes, they'd also challenge Tuvok in a very personal way.

I thought when Voyager first came on the air. And the Caretaker was abducting ships from all over the galaxy. I thought that the mysterious vanishing of Geordi's mother's ship could have been explained the same way.

Other things they could have shown on Voyager. A follow up on Hugh and his Borg that were cut off from the collective. Or something about other El Aurians. The race that Guinan belonged to. Since I think they may have come from the Delta Quadrant.

Kes had been kicked off the show long before "Equinox".

I don't think Guinan came from the Delta Quadrant. She just came from the far edges of federation space.

She was from a place that had full contact with the Borg in the late 23rd century, the close edge of the Delta Quadrant is a logical extrapolation.

She's from that "area of space" that they visit in "Q-Who."

Seeing as how Guinan visited Earth in the 1800s its safe to say that she gets around.

IIRC that was quoted to be 7000 light years away.

I'd love to see that tie-in. But, I don't think the Hera would have worked at all for what they wanted to do with that episode "Equinox." They needed a new character so they could make him batsh*t evil.

It was best that the series kept the number of TNG character crossovers to a minimum on Voyager. With each new season I was continually concerned that TPTB would decide to shoehorn Worf into the cast so he could take over yet another show and make yet another chapter of the Klingon Soap Opera That Just Wouldn't Quit.

It would have been nice to have Marla Gilmore and Noah Lessing recur occasionally, as they were the ones most likely to be redeemable. I don't even remember the other characters' names.

As for Kes, she was already gone by the time the Equinox situation came along, and I don't understand what you mean by replacing her. She didn't need replacing, since she had become like Jadzia - expert in anything the plot called for as a deus ex machina. At least Seven had a somewhat reasonable explanation for some of her "miracle saves".

Hope she remembers her towel and Babel fish.

I might get around to writing it sometime, though I'd upset a lot of VOY fans as I've replaced many of the main characters (or actors). My main cast going into the YoH would be:
Captain Elizabeth Shelby (played by Elizabeth Dennehy)
Commander Calvin Hudson (played by Bernie Casey)
Lt. Commander Tuvok (played by Tim Russ)
Lt. Commander Aiva Stadi (played by Alicia Coppola)
Lieutenant Nathan Hawk (played by Neal McDonough)
Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres (played by Roxann Dawson)
Lieutenant j.g. Samuel Lavelle (played by Dan Gauthier)
The Doctor (played by Richard Armitage)
    Neeix (played by Sam Worthington)
    Kes (played by Jennifer Lien)
Seven of Nine (played by Wentworth Miller)

On the other hand, Voyager fans might see it as an intriguing AU story. I'm pretty sure I've seen your list of characters before, on some other thread, with Shelby and Hudson replacing Janeway and Chakotay. Shelby and Hudson could be an interesting pair to develop; but you'd have to find a way to give Hudson some character beyond just his Maquis background. (The captain, traditionally, can be fairly bland on "Star Trek," but the first officer usually has more to him than just his job or past jobs. Then again, Riker was a pretty Average Joe, so who knows.)

My advice would be, treat this like an AU story, and not like a "fixer fic." Far more "Voyager" fans will probably be opened minded to it then, and won't just be comparing it to the show. Oh, and for the love of Spock's beard, don't fill your author's notes with rants against everything that p*ssed you off about the show, especially if you haven't actually watched most of it.

(Someone actually did that in a "fixer fic" I read once a few years back. I'm hoping it wasn't you because that'd make this conversation really awkward, but I don't think it was, since I'm pretty sure I know you from FF.net. You gave me some awesome advice on my Mirror Universe "Voyager" story, I believe.)
