Wait...Part III? "Prelude to Axanar"? Wasn't the documentary film called that? Wasn't that Part 1? or was it Part 2? I'm really confused now. WTF is he doing here?

    Ripping off Star Wars?
I thought after the lawsuit he was forbidden from doing any more fundraising?

Wouldn't surprise me if that were the case, but the title just seems wrong. There was nothing before "Prelude" and "Prelude" already exists, which started off the whole mess. Now this new one is "Part III" and again named "Prelude". At least the SW episode numbering and naming conventions make sense. This does not. Was there another Axanar-related production in this vein that I somehow missed? An audio-only release or something?

What a moron! Still violating the guidelines (50K limit). I hope CBS burns him to the ground.

When is he going to move on and leave poor Trek fans alone.

No more crowdfunding; he's allowed to request private donations.

Yeah, basically if you can come up with a million dollars privately you can make a million dollar fifteen minute fan film.

Oh, how clever. So he announces he needs $150,000 in private donations. Is that a violation of the $50K limit?

Remember that Prelude and Axanar were largely based on the old FASA Four Years War role playing game publication. That’s where I believe they took the Part III designation from, having skipped over the narrative bits that would have been I and II. So the portion of the narrative that became Prelude became part III and the two new shorts are supposed to be IV and V. Of course it won’t matter much what they call them if they never get made.

On the fundraising, the $50,000 limit in the guidelines refers only to crowdfunding. There is no limit on private fundraising. Per the settlement, Alec is prohibited from any public fundraising or crowdfunding so he is limited to attempting private fundraising only by privately hitting up existing donors etc. The problem with private fundraising, aside from it’s obvious difficulty, is the lack of public accountability. He can claim pretty much anything he wants about the amounts he needs and the amounts he was able to raise and there would be virtually no way to verify any of it.

I've got nothing useful to say about Axanar right now, other than that Peters will keep this discussion alive for some time to come. I just wanted to agree that notepad++ is a dandy little piece of software.

Short answer: No time soon. He's found a cash cow and he's going to milk it until it shrivels up and dies.

Is publicly announcing that you're taking private donations through a public fundraising site "private"?

If his last attempt at fundraising is any indication, he may have reached the limit of his "charismatic influence."

I do hope that he keeps it up, though, so we can reach and surpass 1701 pages.

    It's only fair. :techman:

There's a question - is it still 'private' if you announce it publicly? ... hmm ...

Let's ask the Magic 8 Ball:

He renamed it a while back. I guess he thinks after 4 abd 5 he can come back and do 1 abd 2. Except none will he made.

In this case he is interpreting it to mean not Kickstarter or indiegogo.

Expect once this starts for him or his minions to try to spam places like this with links.

So, he basically sat there and thought of a way to get around the lawsuit and rules. Technically legal, but morally bereft.

And now a Part III when we still don't have a Part I and II? It's like it's a purposeful scam.
