Obviously YMMV but describing Bones as wrong headed, for me, does him a diservice. He was the voice of humanity retaining the best of itself in the fast paced ever changing future. He was foundational and genuine. Yes he baited Spock but then got it right back in double doses. He was controversial, single minded and not afraid to express his opinion. As has been often said he was one side of Kirk's descision making triad and not afraid to throw his weight around when he thinks its needed and right. But equally apologises when he's wrong.
Best Ships Medical Officer like evah !!

All in all a strong rightly lauded character who "made" TOS.

By character likability: McCoy, EMH, Phlox, Crusher, Pulaski, Bashir.

Didn'e rate Culber or Boyce or the others. Not enough screen time.

By who I would want to save me: EMH, Bashir, Pulaski, Crusher, Phlox, McCoy.

    Listed in order of "Bitchy-ness."
    EMH
    McCoy
    Pulaski
    (the rest)

The EMH scores high on many lists, but I wonder if one of the other doctors would have been able to "clean out" all the Borg device from Seven's body (going to use that as a metric), where the EMH obviously couldn't?

Phlox's would be the one on the relatively short list of doctors that I would score lowest when it came to ethics, bring into existence a sapient Human Being in order to harvest a organ to save another patient, killing the created person in the process. Also refusing to save a entire species, so that a second species could rise in a social order. Best able to rid Seven of her nanites.

McCoy is the most talented surgeon, this being his distinguishing attribute beyond the others. He is notable as a medical researcher, and he is the only one who is a profession psychologist. Second most able to rid Seven of her nanites. Plus he's charming around the ladies (dream on Bashir).

The others .... well they're kind of just there as doctors,

Crusher I've alway rated as "average" across the board, she's probably a good indication of what is the standard for doctors of her time period.

Bashir has enhanced intelligence, but where do we see him being unusually fantastic as a doctor? He's good at his job.

Same with Pulaski, there's nothing wrong with Pulaski's abilities.

I think Changeling Bashir deserves some credit for the complex medical procedure he performed on Sisko in Rapture.

My favorite in terms of likability: McCoy.

The one I'd go to for a cure: EMH (since he has more knowledge)

The one I'd go to if I wanted to hear good music: EMH, since there's no doubt that he can sing.

Most Capable: EMH, Bashir, ...ohhh I guess all of them.

Most shady: Phlox, then the EMH

Most terrifying: The EMH, then Phlox

Least Caring(for the average man): Hmmm...McCoy?

    Most Caring: Crusher, then Bashir

Most Respective(respecting? Of the patient): Pulaski & Bashir

I would only let Pulaski, Crusher, or Bashir treat me. The others frighten me.

His main problem was that he didn't like Tom Paris. I doubt he was alone in that regard.

How would YOU react if you had to serve with someone who got three cadets killed? And not only that, but this doc was once stationed at the very same facility WHERE they died. So he may have been friends with them. Given this, his attitude towards Tom is entirely understandable. He probably got along with the rest of the crew just fine.

Actually I did wonder why they got such a good actor like Jeff McCarthy and wasted him on a role that lasted all of five minutes...

Interesting point, actually. Why would a changeling bother to save Sisko's life? You'd think that he would have found a way to let Sisko die, and no one would ever know. There was a war on, after all...

    4. Crusher
    5. Bashir, phase 1
    6. Pulaski
    7. Phlox
    8. Bashir, phase 3

Who I would want to treat me depends on what I have. Some weird super-rare disease nobody has ever survived, Bashir or EMH. Just regular old doctor for commonplace life threatening injuries, I might go with Crusher because I feel she'd be most likely to break the rules to save my life.

I think Least Caring is the one who talked his captain out of curing a plague.

Phlox is already the most terrifying. McCoy just makes me nervous, that's all. I mean, why is he always walking around with a bag full of stimulants?
