While most of them were rubbish, the Predator Borg at the end of the first segment was awesome.

The big monster Borg who stomped around? He was a bit stupid IIRC, you could just hid behind the forcefields and then run over to the next one after taking a shot at him.

The only bosses I remember being that difficult were the ones with the shields that would turn on and off. I think they were the quadrupeds. Most of the other bosses didn't take much effort, although I did play on easy.

The borg aren't as good as Elite force.
Elite force and 2 will work on windows 7, what may not be able to work is the expansion pack. I can't install it.

I enjoyed Elite Force II, but was disappointed in how few TNG cast were in the game. Given the time it was set in, it made sense for Riker and Troi not to be there and Data obviously. They at least made mention of Worf being on leave, but Barclay replaced Geordi without explanation and a random doctor replaced Crusher. That didn't work for me.

Being on the Enterprise-E was great, so little of it had really been explored in the movies besides the Bridge and Engineering that it was nice to walk its corridors.

Also, I liked that in between hazard missions the team wore actual uniforms instead of always being in the hazard suits.

Has anyone been able to play this on modern systems? I can get EF1 to work but not EF2. Haven't had much success with finding a solution online.

I know what you mean, part of the strength of the first game was the full voice cast made it feel immersive.

I rationalised it as being post-Nemesis, so Riker and Troi were gone, Crusher was gone (per deleted scene) and so maybe Geordi went too. He ends up as Captain La Forge so he may have got bored of being Picard's mechanic.

So how did Barclay end up back on the Enterprise after being head of the Pathfinder Project? Obviously there wasn't much need for it anymore, but surely he wouldn't want to go back to being a starship engineer?

But that seems like a step down. Also, Pathfinder was much more Barclay's kind of thing, where he doesn't have to put himself in life-threatening situations and have the fate of the ship on his shoulders all the time.

He did it for years before Pathfinder. Once Voyager was home he needed a new job. Picard asked him back.

With an up to date graphics card it should run. Elite force since it was released end of century should run fine even with integrated graphics.

I've played both recently on windows 10. I play therough the EF 1 campaign every once in a blue moon to indulge in some nostalgia. I actually replayed EF2 following my completition of EF 1 (and I'm currently on Star Trek: Away Team; Viva la Nostalgia!) and I agree while it was a fun game, it didn't have as much soul as Voyager: Elite Force. EF 1 had the entire Voyager crew (minus Seven until they release the patch/expansion pack). You could visit the bridge, engineering, sickbay, the shuttlebay, and more. You got to fight the borg, species 8472, and take out some terran empire descendents from the mirror universe on some franken-constitution-class-bird-of-prey mashup. It was awesome.. It was truly an awesome experience.

Then you have EF 2. While the beginning missions that took place with the Hazard team on the borg sphere during "Endgame" were pretty cool, and it was nice to have some fun on the Enterprise - E post-nemesis, it still felt like it could have been more. The new species/enemies created just for the game were a little basic and didn't add much to the overall story. Even the weapons felt like some generic sci-fi blasters with star trek stickers slapped on them (Starfleet uses grenade launchers? and phaser shotguns?). You kind of get this vibe that it's a generic FPS with star trek stickers slapped on it. It felt a little odd only really interacting with Tuvok and Picard. (TBH, I don't even remember interacting with Barclay)

That being said, I enjoyed the multiplayer on each tremendously. I played holomatch more than I played the EF2 multiplayer, but they had some fun custom game modes. The assimilation mode in EF1 was the best. One team of starfleet officers tries to kill the borg queen who equipped with her personal transporter can instantly assimilate you if she touches you. Then you respawn as a borg in her army and its your job to assimilate the rest of your former team. And the borg adapt to non-imod weapons. It was a lot of fun.

Then you had a custom mod community that formed, with players creating maps of the Enterprise D, Voyager, steam runner classes, Daedalus classes, constitution classes, and other maps that you could frag each other on. To say nothing of EF Area 51 and Danger city. (Derelict and USS Serenity anyone?) I probably regularly played this game for 10 years after it came out. There are still some multiplayer servers up right now. However, I think most are populated with bots. Still, I always get super excited when I see that people still play these awesome games. Wish they would release a similar game for today's generation.

I loved them both. EF2 was a bit more generic but that bit where you walk on the hull of the Enterprise-E was :techman:

I also found Elite Force 1 much better content wise than Elite Force 2 despite it having a lot of established elements such as recognizable species from the original series, TNG, and DSN.

Someone here brought something up I have not been able to put my finger on why I disliked it until now, EF2 does indeed feel a bit like a Quake skin job when it comes to the weapons (phaser shotgun, phaser machine gun).
I think these should have been setting on the phaser rifle instead (regular mode, short range powerful mode, automatic fire mode). I also found most of the alien weapons rather useless outside the staff.

The storyline of Elite Force 1 was also more engaging and had a lot more compelling mystery. You also really felt that Voyager's crew was on their own and that there would not be any back up unlike in Elite Force 2 in which you were operating to often in familiar territory and the rest of Starfleet was only one subspace call away.

Add. in some way part of the plot device, the exomorphs kind of felt like an imitation of the Reavers that the Forge produced in Elite Force 1.

Last, I really have the feeling that quite some of the levels of Elite Force 2 were a lot smaller than those of Elite Force 1.
It didn't help that we visited such places as a sewer and abandoned industrial area which are rather FPS clichés now. If designers are going to let us explore a city, let us explore a city such as housing blocks, government buildings and so on.

One fan idea I had for an Elite Force 3 is that it would now be set in the area of Deep Space Nine and perhaps a region just beyond the wormhole.
Lt Munro, now Lt-Commander Munro and his team have been send to DSN to assist Starfleet (represented by captain Kira) to assist with an investigation into a new hostile party that has been attacking ships and colonies.
The actors playing Kira Nerys, Bashir, and Nog would return to reprise their roles and this time the player would operate from Deep Space Nine and the Defiant which has been temporary assigned to the Munro's command for the duration of the crisis.

The player would encounter recognizable species both friendly, neutral, and hostile such as Klingons, Cardassians, Romulans (?), Ferengi, the Breen, the Jem'Hadar beyond the wormhole, as well as the Borg who make a surprise appearance after having been drawn to the area because of the events taking place there, and a couple of new species including the new trouble makers.
Then there would of course be various non sapient enemies such as animals as well as hostile automatics.

(I would really have liked to have brought back the Grigari from Deep Space Nine the Fallen as I rather liked them)

I've often wondered whether the team set-up from the Elite Force games would be a good starting point for "realistic" away teams in general? Two to three junior officers, a couple of technicians (demo, comms), a pilot, a medic and a handful of security troopers that can double as recon and potentially snipers.

Roughly corresponds to a Green Berets A-team, which is known to be a highly flexible and capability line-up for both combat and non-combat operations.

I also have both the first and second Elite Force games boxed. I have not played them in ages especially since a lot of the community has moved on and the sites where I got mods and maps have largely disappeared. It would be cool if these games could be re-released on Steam and GOG with some servers back up. Ah, one can dream!
