    Hey guys!

1.) Would this be the chronological order to watch in?

2.) What episode to watch first if there are more than one episode being on the same date? Like the Enterprise series has a few in like a few of the seasons where there are two episodes on the same date.

Just pick something and jump in. Never understood the need for an order to the episodes?

Yeah, I watch series in internal chronological order, but jumping between series in the TNG/DS9/Voy era is so much work it's not worth it.

No offense intended, but did you really type all that out?

    Production order is fine.

I would watch individual series by airing order just because production order does weird things to TNG like Symbiosis after Skin Of Evil, Family not directly after BOBW and Unification 2 before 1.

But jumping between series based on chronology is a lot of work for no payoff.

TOS airdate order is certainly not chronological order in-universe. (Of course, it's somewhat ambiguous as to whether production order fully is, either, but it's surely closer. Some people recommend stardate order and it has certain appeals, but I can't stick it myself, as it messes with the gradual evolution of sets, costumes, props, etc.) I would go with production order there.

The reverse is true for TNG, where production order is not chronological order. So go with airdate order, there.

I did. I typed it out for myself in a spreadsheet by hand and all I did was select all than copy but it was too large to post in one thread post which is why I had to reply to the thread.

I've placed those lists in quote boxes so they're not taking up so much page space.

My 2 cents: TNG+ era Trek is best watched in airdate order, but production order works better for TOS.

Thanks for placing in the quote boxes!

With those lists, they was in airdate order, correct? Which would be production order? I got the data from Wilkipedia.

^The cool thing about the Memory Alpha list is that you can instantly sort it by production number, airdate, or stardate order. :)

TOS has little in the way of "arcs" to speak of. The two (or three) Harry Mudd episodes. Some episodes where it's obvious the officers never met Spock's. parents.

In terms of plot, there are arcs with the Romulans, the Klingons, time travel, and the parallel Earths, for example. However, they are largely preserved (no pun intended) in either production or airdate order. What can get lost in the latter, to at least some degree, are the subtle developments in the actors' performances and characterizations. Spock in particular. Plus there's also the evolution of in-universe tech and terminology. But you're of course right that overall this sort of thing is less important in context of TOS than some other shows.

For TOS, it's more about the development of the costumes, sets, cast, etc. in the first half of Season 1...the differences are glaring in airdate order (especially with "Where No Man Has Gone Before" airing a few episodes in), whereas it all fits together more smoothly in production order.

For myself, for pure production design evolution timeline....
    1- "The Cage"
2- "Where No Man Has Gone Before"
3- "The Menagerie" Part 1 & 2 [completes The Cage events.]
4- TOS remaining episodes in whatever order you enjoy
    5- TAS

^It's not a big deal, of course, and I don't remember all the details offhand, but the engineering set received a number of noticeable upgrades during the series, with the addition of dilithium chambers and such. Plus Uhura started out in gold and then switched to red, and probably a few other things I'm missing.
