The more I read about STD the more disappointed I become that we'll never get Axanar.

Based on the script they had for it, you aren't missing anything.

Discovery and Axanar are completely different animals. I enjoyed Prelude a lot, donated to Axanar and have mostly kept out of this mess, but there is nothing superior about Axanar over Discovery. You may like what Axanar was offering better, and that's perfectly valid, but this idea some have that Axanar is subjectively superior is completely erroneous.

Especially since there is no Axanar film and there never will be.

More the fact that something which had a much smaller budget had a far more consistent look and a far more Trek feel to it, but that's just me.

In retrospect, that is one of the more ingenious smokescreens I've seen. Tap into the disaffection a small segment of the fandon feels for 'modern' trek (the JJ Abrams films, Discovery etc) and present them with a tantalizing taste of the old-school, Horatio Hornblower-style Trek they can't resist. Unfortunately, it was just that, a smokescreen--another scheme devised by a narcassitic con-artist to bring in money that has so far, just fed his ego (numerous posts throughout this thread have examined how his past business dealings fit into a larger pattern of deception)

Ironically enough, as I posted above, the only possible way to bring this whole C.F. to a solid conclusion would be for an entirely difference producer/production team to come in and actually make the movie -- getting it out there to the fans that clamored for it in the first place and thereby sidelining the one person responsible for driving the whole project off the rails in the first place.

And there's nothing wrong with feeling that way. We can't all like the same things.

One of the prevailing theories about DISCO right now is
The first half of the season was in its own alternate universe, which is why the uniforms, ships and Klingons were all different. In the mid-season finale, they just possibly made a jump into the mirror universe, which may eventually lead them into the prime universe, allowing us to see the look & feel we're more familiar with. The show runners have said that things will look more like canon Trek as the show progresses. Considering the almost godlike nature of the spore drive, they could likely go anywhere, and at any time, provided they have a valid navigational proxy like Stamets to facilitate the jumps.

While I agree that it's possible the Discovery has jumped into the Mirror Universe, the notion that they come from any other timeline than the Prime one runs contrary to everything the creators have publicly stated.
Sorry, but this is how the PU looks now

Imagine this actually happened, and then AP somehow still tried to claim it was all due to him!

Oh shit, you were serious? I'm not meaning to be rude here, I just honestly thought it was a joke when I saw your first post.

Have to agree. The events of STD have no correlation to Prime Trek whatsoever and probably take place during the same prime universe as NuTrek.

After 20 minutes of Prelude I wanted to see more, I wanted the story of the Four Years War. After 45 minutes of STD Ep1 I had no interest in the characters or situation to even see how it was resolved. It just doesn't have the spark of Trek that makes it compelling to me to want to watch any more (even with wonderful Michelle Yeoh involved!).

The Four Years War never interested me, but I did find Prelude to be entertaining and extremely well-done visually. But when it comes down to it, I didn't find there to be much substance to it. Reading the script for the Axanar feature, I found even less substance.

As for Discovery, the first aired episode was bad. I mean, really bad. I won't deny it. If it were any other series, I would have given up on it. After fifteen years of being off the air, I figured I'd give at the very least, the front half of the first new Star Trek in a long time a chance. Following the first nine hours, I have not been disappointed. People will disagree with me and I don't particularly care. I found far more substance in those nine episodes than I did in entire seasons of Voyager or Enterprise. Its not perfect. Its got a lot of flaws I hope they'll work through in the last six episodes of season one. But it has interesting character journeys, a very complex captain and isn't just pew-pew-pew like I sincerely believe Axanar would have been.

The only, very small, comparison that can be made between Axanar and Discovery is that the Federation and the Klingons are fighting. That happened, ya know, a lot throughout the course of Star Trek. Alec Peters did not invent that idea. I'm not saying you're suggesting that, Bry, but a lof of Axafans do. And its obnoxious.

That's all just my $0.02, of course.

I enjoyed the first episode of DSC. Hoping to catch up a little over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I have a client who is taking up a lot of my free time :(

I really wanted to see Axanar especially after seeing Prelude. I got very upset with the production after reading their annual report. I got even more upset after the lawsuit. The Axanar script which was described as the "greatest Star Trek script ever written" was awful.

At this point, I wish they'd just show the Battle of Axanar on Discovery. I can't get on board with anything the Axanar production team says or does. If the other parts of the rockumentary ever get made, I probably won't watch them.

Of course, you're free to believe that if you want, but that is absolutely not the stated intention of the show runners.

Did you read the feature script? Because I don't think you should say things like that until you do. You might feel silly afterwards. Click!
