Ever Wonder Why They Didn't Do This in "The Gamesters of Triskelion"?

In this episode when Kirk takes on the three drill thralls in the final battle it is specifically said that if Kirk (or the others) step on a different color they will be deprived of one weapon. AFAIR, Kirk steps on the wrong color at least four times during the battle yet never suffers the loss of a weapon.

When they remastered the original series effects why didn't they use CGI to eliminate this error?

For some reason I've always had a sweet spot in my heart for this episode.

Because that wasn't part of the scope of the "remaster" project.

I never understood that but it would've been doable wouldn't it?

Yes, Grandmaster Kirk had trouble staying on his color. My problem was with those thralls. They had a 3-on-1 advantage against Kirk and he kicked their collective asses.

I'm not. They had spent their entire lives (apparently) fighting one on one for the betting of the Providers. I'm betting (so to speak) that none of them had any experience fighting as a team.

Still don't know why I like this episode. One reason I guess is how its on no ones list of great episodes.

Another is the entire thing of McCoy and Scotty ganging up on Spock.

Some have noted that Kirk was so taken with Shahna that he apparently forgot all about Lars trying to rape Uhura early on.

As an episode, it's on my 50/50 list. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Those plastic brains and Shahna's 15 pound hairdo just bug me.

Gamesters really belongs in the third season. Perhaps it can swap places with The Enterprise Incident.

^^This. Besides, AFAIK the only way to achieve that would be to totally replace all the shots where Kirk steps outside his assigned color with CGI. That means computer-generated backgrounds, actors, everything. I'm sure it would have been technically possible 10 years ago, though with a high risk of creating an "uncanny valley" effect.

Not just plastic brains -- illuminated plastic brains in bright primary colors!

(How the hell can a species evolve into disembodied brains anyway?) :wtf:

Anyone remember the reference to Triskelion in the John M. Ford novel "The Final Reflection"? Turns out the Klingons had been selling prisoners to the Providers for years to be thralls.

That's just because they subconsciously wanted to get into Starfleet, or at least be responsible for another sale of a RCA TV set. :D

They're either life forms that evolved beyond the need of their bodies, like they stated or they were exposed to surgical procedures that removed their brains from their bodies and placed them within a life support system where they got bored of continually challenging each other's intelligences and decided to kidnap advanced space travellers for their games! Simple! :techman:

Maybe those disembodied brains are what internet geeks turn into when they spend too much time on video games, chat rooms, internet forums, etc. :ack:
