I can honestly say this series picks up after the 5th episode.

The character development is truly hard core since you can genuinely hate the casting for a few episodes, but the exact same characters can grow on you retroactively, especially the Captain. This is pretty impressive and rare.

After seven episodes you get used to them. Not so rare ;)

Yeah Discovery has its flaws but it's found its footing faster than any Trek besides TOS.

False. It's having the slowest launch so far, with just one enjoyable episode after 7 weeks since release.

I'm pretty sure it's been objectively proven by science that early TNG sucked.

Yeah, I was not a fan of the opening episodes, but the show has started to grow on me with these last few. I'm enjoying it a lot more.

Even with the first two episodes its started far stronger than ENT, TNG, DS9 or Voyager for me.

I already like Lorca more than the other Captains and he is not even the main character like they were, its not even a contest at this point, the scripts feel tighter in episodes 3-7 as well.

Alas it just adds to the sense of lost opportunity I get from the first two episodes.

TNG did struggle a little bit in its first season but it did eventually gradually better and better. Same thing is happening now with Discovery.

I think the first episode carried me with the sense that Star Trek was back.. then it moved into 'What kind of Star Trek is this' territory. The second lost me toward the end and that should have been the set up. The third felt like it should've been the first, regards getting introduced to Discovery but left a bad taste in my mouth. It was like - these people are horrible. About the fourth I thought what a messy, convoluted concept - shroom drive and alien cruelty, horrid Captain. The fifth didn't help but by then I started to really like the intro music. The sixth (was that Lethe?) thought was its best. I would say I felt Lethe was a decent enough outing. The last one, it has dipped again. Time crystal and party when the last episode had left someone in danger? That's just weird and disjointed.

Michael is an adequate character. Lorca is compelling but would sit quite low as a favourite Captain.

I've watched through ep. 4 so far so I'm interested to see if I agree.

i perfectly remember stargate universe..some of the initial episodes were awful but when i was starting to like it...well it was to late...audience rates cancelled the show.
I hope better luck for ST Discovery

I so agree. It took me a while to warm up to Stargate Universe. But then it was over.

False. All episodes are 10/10 excellent. Trust me, I'm a scientist.

I'm not sure if I'd give many episodes of any Star Trek an actual 10. Discovery has wiggle room for one of those.
