Given it's Black Cat Appreciation Day, here are 4 professional photos taken of our foster Pedro to help get him rehomed.

Gorgeous cat. We had a black cat, Merlyn, who weighed in at 22 pounds. You always knew when he jumped on the bed in the middle of the night.

    If only.

He's a lovely moggy but black cats are hard to find adopters for (too common apparently) so he'll likely be with us for a while and hence why the more professional photographs.

He desperately wants to go outside but we can only allow that on a harness. And he no likey the harness.

So he looks longingly out the window watching the world until feeding time, or one of us goes for a nap and he curls up with us.

One thing about black cats: when you're sitting there watching TV with the lights off and happen to look over at his chair, all you see is a pair of eyes in the shadows. Until he yawns. EEEEEEKKK!!!

He's gorgeous. I grew up with a black cat, so I've always had a special appreciation for them. It's true that they are difficult to find homes for, but only because of people stupid and baseless superstitions. They are some of the most loving cats out there (the ones I've been around).

I would choose him in a heartbeat.

    What continent are you on?

We are in Europe - the UK - Central South

One of the other problems of attempting to re-home foster cats/pets is they are typically either neglected or abused prior to being rescued. Pedro appears to have generally had a good life, but his previous humans moved flat and just left him there. Thankfully the asshole's landlord found him when he went to the property, but he was alone and without food for quite some time. So, naturally, he's not on the best of terms with us People at the moment. He's slowly coming around and I recently found out he likes a good belly rub when he's calm enough.

We live near a busy road and I was very anxious about letting Sox out given she used to live semi-rural on twelve acres. The front patch of lawn here is as much cat proof as we could make it. The fencing has been supplemented with gutter guard along the bottom and the palings get a regular check. (One came down one day and madam was out in a flash). Then I discovered the little beast is a climber. She can fling herself against the wood, dig her claws in and scramble over, quite a feat for a well nourished cat. So now there's a slippery black liner along the top part of the perimeter fencing. Keeping this cat in is serious business, lol. However one mistake and she'd be in danger. I still go out with her and watch when she's outside.

Hope you find a home for your guy or get to enjoy him!

We don't know his complete history, but Jim was a stray when he was brought into the Humane Society. We came to figure he had been seriously abused in his time prior to us. First, he had a couple of white streaks on him (the white fur from scars, not normal markings) and he was deathly afraid of ceiling fans, plastic bags, and the sound of sizzling on the stove.

He was nervous and lashed out with his razor-sharp claws when startled, but by the gods, I loved that cat as I've never loved another animal. I could touch him in ways no other person could; he felt safe with (and on) me.

I hate to think of what must've happened to him before he'd been found. :(

    :(

Both of our own cats are rescues - Pepsi was found as a kitten abandoned in an alley fending for himself and Millie was found foraging through external household bins whilst pregnant. She gave birth to her litter in the rescue centre, the kittens all adopted and she spent 6 months looking for a home, because she's a tuxedo (mostly black) cat.

Pepsi is an itinerant little soul and really only comes in for food and because of his previous life never got taught how to groom himself or hunt, so he doesn't really know how to "cat". So when we saw Millie we thought she would be a good Big Sister to him and, bless her, she seemed to try to teach him how to hunt and take care of himself, but it was all a bit of a lost cause. He really wasn't interested.

If Millie is feeling especially generous she will bring us a mouse or a bird as an offering. Pepsi brought us a leaf once. Only thing he could catch. Bless his white paws.

Hugo - loves his weird black and white cats

So I was wandering around the weird part of YT (which seems to cover a significant amount, unsurprisingly ) and stumbled across this video. The song here is "Duet for Two Cats" attributed to Giacchino Rossini. I kind of feel sorry for the kids, though they did a good job singing with a straight face...
