Yup, 2005. Hopefully it won't be the same result. Boo to sweeps!

Thank you Astros for sparing us the horror of a Dodgers/yankees world series.

Nope. Far from heading down to hell, this young Yankees team weren't supposed to get this far and played their hearts out. We're looking at the beginning of a team that will rival the Yankees of Joe Torre. (Lots of teeth-gnashing from Yankees haters. :nyah:)

I'd like to see the Astros take the WS - they're due and what a gritty team they are. Hats off.

Being from Houston, I should be more of an Astros fan than I am, but you can't watch the Astros on TV unless you buy a specific cable sports package. So my enthusiasm for them is kind of weak, and I have a kind of "screw them" attitude for denying Astros games on broadcast TV.

I'll probably watch the world series on Fox, since that's broadcast TV. So I hate the Astros organization for signing that cable deal, but hope they win. I don't think they'll beat the Dodgers though.

I fucking hate cable. Hate it. It's either free broadcast TV or streaming for me. No fricking cable.

Back in late April, when Thames burst out of the gate and broke baseball for like two and a half months (including tarring and feathering Lackey), Bosio said something along the lines of, "You know, it just make you think of guys like Manny Ramirez in Los Angeles, Barry Bonds, some of the great hitters, and Thames' body is different from when he was here before. It's a head-scratcher, but I'll leave that to everyone else and just worry about getting him out." Basically stopping just short of saying that Thames was juicing.

Epstein and Hoyer were reportedly livid about it.

Official announcements are pending (MLB frowns upon staff announcements during the World Series), but Alex Cora is the new Red Sox manager, and Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway is taking over the Mets.

Good luck to the Mets on that one. Historically speaking, pitching coaches do not tend to be particularly good managers.

Really excited about the Alex Cora hire. I was worried that Dombrowski would bring in Ausmus or some other old-fashioned retread so this is a very pleasant surprise.

A lot of assumptions there. Yeah, there are legitimate reasons to be excited and optimistic about the future but a lot of things can happen that change the picture. To compare this group to the Yankees of the late 90s is extremely premature and that's putting it kindly.

I'm not looking forward to the return of douchbag Yankee fans. I know they've been lurking....waiting ;)

Meanwhile, all is right with the world. At least for another year.

I like the move. I wasn't thrilled with the idea that he would bring in Ausmus, Gardenhire, or (blargh!) Dusty Baker. Hopefully, Cora can pull a Francona with this team and get them back on track.

Agreed. Fresh face/ideas, and they've been talking about him as a future manager since he was playing, so let's see what he's got. Hopefully we get some enthusiasm to get the kids going. Would like to see him with an experienced bench coach that can slap around the vets, though. Or maybe they need to sign someone to be that guy in the clubhouse, positive influence to steer people away from some of the negative voices. 1B is open, so could be a good spot for someone like that. Hosmer, maybe?

Yet another World Series in which I can find a way to be happy if either team wins. Makes for fun viewing.
I'm pulling for the Astros, but its all good either way.

Ugh, that's awful. I take back what I said before, I'm not surprised he was fired now.

They didn't go away. My cousin's wife and her friends where subjects of gross taunting at Yankee Stadium during Game 3 because they were Indians fans, including singing "Why are you gay" to the tune of "YMCA." There are also reports of Yankees fans chanting "Hurricane Harvey" at Astros fans during Game 5.

It’s official, Mickey Callaway is the new manager of your NY Mets. Oh well I guess it was too much to ask for another shot for Bobby Valentine.

Classy. However, to be fair, those types of fans exist everywhere. I went to a Phillies/Red Sox game, in Philly, back in 2005 or 2006 and there were some Phillies fans who acted much the same way.

I hadn't been interested in the Yankees for the last few years. In fact, I was following the Rockies. Then the enthusiasm of this young team made me want to cheer all over again. Plus TPTB stopped paying a fortune to big guns for hire and went back to their farm system of rebuilding. It may very well be premature, but there's a spirit there that reminds me of the '90s. We'll see.

Yeah, some Yankee fans are total assholes and ruin it for everybody. You can say that for a lot of teams. I think the Phillies fans are the worst; I don't remember Yanks fans hurling batteries at players on the field.

@Mr. Laser Beam will give chapter and verse on Phillies fans. :D

Sure, but it seems to me (and granted I could be wrong) that this kind of shit occurs with Yankees fans far more often than other teams' fans. On the other hand, I haven't been to a Major League game in many years, so what do I know?

Sweeps in the World Series are fantastic if it's your team doing the sweeping. Nothing sweeter than watching the Red Sox sweep the Cards in 2004 and the Rockies in 2007

The battery thing was in goddamn 1999, I think at some point there's an expiration date on "hurr Phillies fans are jerks they threw batteries once and also threw snowballs at a drunk santa lollllllllllllll." At some point it just starts being lazy. The White Sox had a couple of meth heads run on the field and assault a coach, a bunch of drunkards--with weapons--charged the field in Cleveland, five or six years ago some Dodgers fans beat up a Giants fan to the point that he suffered traumatic brain damage and is disabled for the rest of his life, a jackwagon Cubs fan heckled Chad Kreuter to the point that like 20 Dodgers chased him into the stands, Red Sox fans have been hurling racist slurs at opposing players, I think Twins fans hurled hot dogs at Knoblauch at least once ... long story short, it's not as though the city of Philadelphia has a monopoly on obnoxious fans.

^IIRC, Kreuter’s catching helmet was stolen right off his head (he was helping out in the bullpen that day), which is why his teammates joined him when he chased after the fan.

If you wanna go back 20 more years, what about all those White Sox fans that stormed the field during Disco Demolition?
