OK, the season begins. So this first episode is all set-up. Interesting start. Loved the use of Metallica in the intro.

I was a bit surprised that Castiel didn't come back this episode. Will Chuck answer Dean's prayer and put Cas back together from the ashes? How long until Jack goes nuclear? Will we see Alt-Universe Bobby again? God (er, Chuck?) I sure hope so. I'm hoping this story-line has a bit more going for it.

Again, all set-up, but I want to see more.

I've been wondering if it will be the new kid that brings Castiel back.

That was one of my favorite THE ROAD SO FAR sequences. Very effective use of scenes and the song.

And the title card reminds me of the Eye of Sauron.

I blew a breaker right before the 'The Road So Far' so I missed it.

Kind of a slow start to the season, I thought, but the highlight was Dean's desperate, unanswered prayer to Chuck. He is truly overwhelmed by loss at this point, even wishing for the return of Crowley. But at least I got my wish that Mary is still alive, which was a pleasant surprise.

Jack is pretty much what I expected: An impulsive innocent with great powers that he finds difficult to control. Sam wants to nurture him and Dean wants to kill him. No surprises there.

One surprise is that the sheriff's kid survived the Angel attack, making me wonder if he will return. I liked the actor who played him.

And the Angel said that Castiel is truly dead this time, and they burned his body. I wonder what they have up their sleeves to bring him back. Hopefully something more clever than Mirror Castiel.

On the subject of Jack's powers, I thought it was fitting that Dean demanded to know whether Jack could teleport and whether he had wings--I've wondered that myself. The angels say that Jack can do almost anything...I wonder if that includes zapping?

For that matter...I wonder if this will be the season when the angels finally get their wings back? Would be great for Jack to somehow be the instrument of their restoration rather than their destruction.

Well, we have only seen one Nephilim before, at the end of season 8 when one of the ingredients to the casting out spell Metatron used was the heart of a Nephilim.

However, Jack is a Nephilim from an Archangel, which are far more powerful than a regular angel. He may very well be able to teleport, and maybe even do what you suggest and be the one who restores the other angels' abilities.

Jack thinks of Castiel as his father so I wonder if he winds up bringing back to life.

Last week's was a pretty good start to the season.
I was really shocked they actually left Castiel dead, I figured he'd be back before the end of the episode. I find it very, very hard to believe he won't be back before the end of the season.
Jack seems like he should be an interesting character.
It was a bit surprised they just laid everything out for the Sheriff, but I guess after what happened with Jack it might have been hard to blow it off. I wonder if we'll see her and her son again at some point.

    Tonight's episode:

Tonight's episode proved one thing: demons can still be scary.

THIS friends is what Supernatural should be. Even the brief moment when the hell gate opened, the...things that we almost-saw, which while cheesy, were in the right context with Asmodeus standing there. The opening scene where Asmodeus openly referred to the Crowley "corporate" era of Hell struck me as a bit of a meta, the writers telling us that we're in for something different.

Also gotta say...I like that they openly discussed teleporting for the second episode in a row, and lo and behold, we actually got an answer. For something that they've danced around for five years now, it's refreshing for them to admit that this is an ability angels are supposed to have.

That said I wish we got a little more exposure to the alternate world than we got in this episode. The scenes between Mary and Lucifer were very well done, and as usual Lucifer managed to be reasonable and convincing before he lost patience and turned to other means...actually rather reminded me of Zacchariah when he got annoyed, which again is a refreshing callback.

Not sure about the way the alternate angels were depicted though. They looked like commandos and appeared not with the flutter of wings, but in bursts of fire that looked like comets. Alt-Michael's entrance was one of the best entrances at least since the start of the episode, when Asmodeus appeared in a burst of light too...maybe they're trying to underscore that the alternate world really is different, but I wish we'd seen something more familiar.

I really enjoyed seeing the alt-universe; I wish other-Bobby had shown up. Loved the alt-Michael/Lucy fight...nice to finally see that showdown. However, the constant Good Cop/ Bad Cop act with Dean & San is already starting to wear thin.

Side note:Alex Calvert reminds me a lot of Alden Ehrenreich.

    Jack is cute!

The new boss of hell could be related to Colonel Sanders, based on his suit and Southern accent.

Maybe Asmodeus IS Colonel Sanders... Ramiel mentioned last season he had his hobbies. One of them could be perfecting those 11 herbs and spices KFC uses.

I fully expect hell to be separated into Original and Extra Crispy sections.

Colonel Asmodeus Sanders was just way too silly for me. It was really hard to take the dude seriously. It was really messed up with Jack stabbing himself.

Well, that was a pretty good episode. It looks like Donatello might be sticking around for a while as a supporting character, which is fine with me. He was able to confirm that Jack is not inherently dark, so now we're just dealing with nature versus nurture (and, undoubtedly, the power corrupts paradigm). It was quite a startling (and telling) moment when Dean came upon Jack trying to kill himself-- I thought this would change Dean's mind about the kid, but not even close. It seems like Dean may be doing more harm than good, but it was Dean that Jack was imitating. And the conversation between Dean and the faux waitress may have been foreshadowing.

Asmodeus, the Prince-- and now acting King-- of Hell is finger lickin' good. I wonder what made him decide to possess Colonel Sanders. :rommie: And where is he now? Did jack send him back to Hell, or the other side of the universe, or what?

And I wonder if those whatsits from the pit are ever going to actually get released. Those arms were pretty creepy. :D

The glimpses into the other universe are very tantalizing and I wonder where they're going to go with it. I love the gravel landscape, with the random bodies and skeletons and the occasional belfry. Alternate Michael seems considerably more mighty than Lucifer, but needs him-- for what, I wonder. And does the alternate universe also have an alternate Chuck or did the One Chuck create the multiverse?

^Probably--maybe protecting Castiel (I'm assuming he'll be back) from Lucifer, or some-such.

Yeah, I figure Jack will save Castiel, die, and then be resurrected by Chuck. I'm not decided on what Chuck should do with Jack afterwards, though. Maybe Jack's job should be to straighten out things in the alternate dimension...perhaps with an alternate Castiel as his ally.
