My hope was have T'Kuvma have the tension with Kol, while having a common enemy in Lorca, seen through the eyes of Burnham and the crew.

In a sidenote, I don't know what was going on, because Chris Obi (T'Kuvma) was tweeting a couple months after he was initially filming that he was filming more for DSC. Were they reshoots or some form of flashbacks to before the first episode?

There's some speculation the reason T'Kuvma is getting bodies is because they have a way to revive them.

While I normally would say, "ZOMBIES IN STAR TREK?"

I'd normally say that with xenomorphs and apparently the fact they've discovered Warhammer 40K's The Warp.

Certainly, it makes a nice SURPRISE, T'KUVMA IS ALIVE!

A question I have from that first episode is how did T'Kuvma retrieve the first Torchbearer's body and send it out to the ship's hull?

That wouldn't make sense, they stuck the Torchbearer in a coffin and glued him to the ship. Saru said the ship was covered in bodies from a few days to hundreds of years old.

...and I have a hard time with Testors glue, getting detail parts to stay on my trains or models!

You realize TOS was produced in the mid-1960's, right? All the shows on American television at the time were essentially episodic. Character development as it is known today, was virtually non-existent.

Of course I realize that. I was replying to someone who thought that a new trek series should be "TOS with modern production values" which would include having "interesting characters." TOS has a lot of strengths, but that style of characterization wouldn't fly now.

Straight dope: Orville is vastly inferior. Poor writing, poor acting, bad humor. It fails at every level.

In your opinion. To me, DSC loses so far in writing, some acting and no humor. It's so far disappointed me.

Really? You might try using the quote feature. It can help put your posts into proper context.

Not for me. While I do enjoy The Orville for what it is, I'm immensely enjoying Star Trek Discovery so much more.

Nah...another one that will land in the "theories that were bunk" thread.

It's easy to be a Trek fan and like The Orville when they just lift scripts and put in a few dick jokes. How much real effort did that take?

For what it is, it is a fun and breezy show--high production values, likable cast, and otherwise a unique, if unmistakably Seth MacFarlane show.

Be nice to have both on for a few seasons after the decade plus dearth.

No show with Adrianne Palicki is a complete failure.

Albeit, I think they should CGI out Seth MacFarlane and replace him with a cartoon dog with the same voice.

    A fair point. ;)

Admittedly, I didn't like him at first. He is growing on me, but I still would be okay if they replaced him.

The type of Trek shows we have had, in a crude way, can be divided into 2 types: light hearted fun episodic space adventures like TOS/TNG and to a lesser degree VOY & ENT (except for 3rd season)., and darker more serialized shows like DS9 & ENT 3rd season. Those who like the former will gravitate toward Orville which is Macfarlane's attempt to create his own TOS/TNG series (I believe he was a big fan of both), while those who like the latter type story telling will like Discovery more. And those of us who like both styles are enjoying the heck out of both Orville and Discovery.

I expect the next Trek series will go the other direction.
