I really got on board with Michael Burnham. Wasn't a fan of SM-G in TWD so this was a pleasant surprise. I'm into her story and can't wait to see what happens next! I think she had more character development in 2 hours than most of the ENT cast in 4 years.

I loved that the Klingons came across as a legitimate threat and not the TNG/DS9/ENT caricature.

Loved the new look of Star Trek. Even the fugly USS Europa had a boxy charm.

Loved the glitchy holograms doing occasional weird stuff (flipping around etc) that anyone who's ever done game design or animation knows too well.

Loved that the back of the badges act as dog tags with name and serial number on them.

Burnham convincing the computer to save her. Something tells me Harry Mudd will just talk his way out of the brig in a few episodes' time.

Loved the Shenzhou getting shredded. Hull breaches everywhere, it's a big step up from sparking consoles and starship acting.

    Loads more.

I watched The Orville three times and enjoyed it.
I watched Discovery twice and was annoyed and bored.

    Don't overthink it.

But doesn't manage to do so on the Enterprise because they have Kirk test them before departing on the 5YM.

Ah the new look of the verse!!
And like somebody else in this thread, the boots!!
    Big fan!
Like the computer voice as well.

The new Klingons are actually dangerous looking!
    Alien and all that..like it!
    Michelle Yeoh!!!!

All those nifty forcefields...and how they barely held that old bucket together!
    Also like the warp effect!
    Burnham is quite interesting!

And alot more...it is great to have some new Trek!

It's not a "second pilot" - it's part 3 of a 15 part story. It "kicked intro gear" just fine in setting up the main character of that story and it's antagonists and the motivation for said antagonists.

Kurtzman said in an interview that the third episode can be considered a second pilot, given that we'll now be going aboard Discovery and meeting the actual main characters.

I love the fact that I discovered Enterprise on Netflix thanks to STD. Never watched it before.

Aside from that, not a whole lot.

So it's kind of a TV movie prequel.

Thought the title sequence was awesome (seriously if they would have used that on "Enterprise" I think it would have roped more people in)

I actually liked the look of the show (sets, uniforms, etc.)

The Shenziou (sp) is a really cool looking ship, I'll definitely be picking up the eaglemoss version of it.

Acting was okay, I like that there seem to be more Aliens on board (no guys with a rubber nub on their forehead)

There was definitely some good stuff in the first two eps.

Burnham was good (up until the big decision in ep 1), and handled the human-raised-by-Vulcans thing better than I expected, as well as better acting than I remembered from Walking Dead.

    Sarek was good

    Georgieu was quite good.

It reminds me of old maps. I wonder if they'll change the intro sequence occasionally (update it to show space, or scenes from episodes)

Well, then I guess that's another way ST: D is in good stead with TOS - because while TOS' first pilot failed to sell the show; its second pilot lead to a IP franchise that's lasted 51 years in some for or another. ;)

I like that analogy! I just need to see more of DSC to see where it sits with me. Right now, it's not approached the heights of TOS.

Michelle Yeah. Sonequa Martin Green was quite interesting as well. The sets!! The space porn. The props. I liked the Klingons actually. Except for some alterations in their looks (which is nothing new) they were Klingons. Some of the Starfleet shipnames. Saru. Starfleet fucking up instead of being the golden boy all the time. Sarek. Liked quite a lot really.

I liked everything about the first 2 hours of Discovery. I love that I get to rewatch it this weekend, and really love looking forward to 13 more new episodes.

I enjoyed the production values as a whole, set design, uniforms, CGI... it all felt so cinematic and realistic and visceral.

Capt. Georgiou was fantastic, and I'm disheartened she won't be in more episodes (except perhaps as a flashback).
Ship design is pretty great, despite being different.
Saru. Duh. His always kinda scared and timid reaction to things was a great foil to Burnham.
I loved that the Klingons actually looked and felt ALIEN for once and didn't speak perfect English (when they did at all).
I loved that a single phaser blast set to kill doesn't have to vaporize you to kill you... it was small but effective, like a real bullet would would.
The desert aliens are very interesting.

About the only thing I did not enjoy was the use of the holo-communicators and Sarek's long-distance mind link with Burnham. Those felt awkward.

Edited to come back just to say that I was unsure how Star Trek this was going to be at first... but as soon as the bridge console exploded and threw the crewman back 10' I KNEW it was Star Trek! lol

I loved them. Any issue I have with the two episodes that aired are minor and did not dampen my enjoyment in any major way. If the dialogue is comic books to some people then early seasons of TNG must be like bad kids stories.

DSC has a second pilot? But why? Was the first pilot a failure? Did the execs thought it was "too cerebral"?
