    I can see Lister's Dad.

Think this was just about the better of the two, with the Federation/Klingon conflict really beginning and obviously had a couple of big moments with the deaths on both sides. The problem with the Klingons isn't particularly the subtitles, it's the content of their monologues along with the subtitles that stops them from being that interesting for long periods of time on screen so it'll be interesting to see how they tackle their screen time in future episodes.

Looking forward to seeing the Discovery crew for the first time next week.

The Klingons probably stole cloaking technology from their classic enemy, the Suliban.

No, that's the first time they had it.

The Animated series was very specific in that given it was the main plot point of the episode.

And, in case you don't count TAS, Kor mentions it again in "Once More Unto the Breach".

So for the most part the Klingons have been absent for nearly a century? I don't remember that in canon.

The series was promoted as expounding upon an event often mentioned in Trek but never seen. And that is....

I'm happy. I'll give the first two an 8/10. It did a good job of showing the inciting incident of this conflict, though I felt some of the character choices were...not always easy to understand. I'm looking forward to what is ahead now that the background has been set up.

There was only a 'big space battle' in the second episode - and the reason for it was clear: T'Kuvma was going to use a 'glorious war' to re-unite the Klingon Empire; and further that the Federation was an enemy to the Empire that had no Honor; and spreads their lie of: "We come in Peace."

Yes, in the pilot there's a space battle. We're not two hours into the series, and there's a major space battle. I didn't like that.

I seriously doubt that this is going to be SUPER BATTLE TREK IN SPACE. The writers involved are too good for that. This feels, to me, like Michael falling to her lowest point so we can see a redemption arc. I have a feeling the next few episodes will be quite a bit more on the hopeful side.

We've never seen this time period before (outside of 'The Cage'), so it would be hard to remember.

Many fans were squealing that the show was full of space battles. There was one major battle which wasn't that clear for any of us. And there was a lot more going on in the ship than outside during game the battle. It found it ok.
I for one disliked the Admiral, he acted like a jerk. So I did not feel bad about the Europa's destruction. I do want to know what was that giant harpoon that destroyed it though. My issue with Burnham is that she should have filled with holes that klingon "savior", not just one shot.

Can't prove that by what we've seen so far.

And expensive unless it's 95 percent exposition.
