Very nice. I never noticed that, but it's been decades since I saw it, and I'm sure the viewing conditions were far from ideal.

My love, a Columbo fan of long standing, tells me that the prop is almost certainly meant to represent the character's history, as Shatner is here playing a renowned actor. One whose current series has him playing a detective, which seems like it's getting dangerously close to reality-breaking. I find this all amusing.

That hat makes him look like the bad guy at the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

 

When the Shat takes the hat off the hair comes with it.

 

That's one of the all-time best Columbo episodes. If anyone here hasn't seen it, I highly recommend it.
