The side view of Discovery is as sleek as all get out. I like raised naceles--but I can see why they went in this direction

Maybe the F-35 should have the pilot on the underside then.

    Commander in Chief

They use the acronym in Undiscovered Country at the beginning during the meeting.

^ That would be the Federation President, wouldn't it?

Not at the time of Undiscovered Country.

In DS9 the President was. Guess there was some sort of policy change.

If you're referring to "Admiral Bill" from that movie:

He is referred to in dialogue as "the C-in-C". The credits list him as "Chief in Command", whatever the hell that means. Perhaps Bill is the most senior admiral in Starfleet at the time - equivalent to the US Navy's Chief of Naval Operations - but he's not the commander in chief of Starfleet. The President is.

(We know this because in DS9's Homefront/Paradise Lost arc, Jaresh-Inyo says so.)

they role of the president could have changed between TUC and DS9

I like the Shenzhou overall, I will probably place a pre order for her at the end of the week, I'm also coming around on the Discovery (I actually liked the original way back teaser version with the filled in saucer better) but I like that it borrows heavily from an old "Star trek: Phase II" concept design , it's just the nacelles are way too long and wispy looking for my personal taste.

Actually it wasn't Phase II, it was Planet of the Titans.

...No reference to UESPA in the plaque, it seems.

"The CnC" ought to be a familiar title from the Cold War era, not meaning Commander in Chief of the armed forces. Rather, Tom Clancy readers should be well acquainted with CINCLANT, CINCPAC and CINCEUR... That is, specific (cold) war theaters and their commanders.

Admiral Bill here would probably be CINCKLIN, as opposed to the CINCROM who left in a huff when the people she was supposed to be killing were invited in on war planning.
