Very sad to news. I only knew him on the boards, but I always liked his posts here.

I just now learned of Greg's passing, and it startled me badly. I loved his contributions to any discussion of props and set pieces. He was so great. :(

My God, what news to come back to after a few days. What a resource of knowledge he brought to anything concerning OS props, sets and costumes. The rare times someone would try to argue a point with him, he was so cool about it. He had nothing to prove, he knew what he knew. I think I thanked him for his contributions, I wish I'd done it more.

Sad and tragic news indeed. I can't say that I ever interacted with him, but I always enjoyed reading his posts, and found him to be one of the people that elevated fandom. He will certainly be missed.

Rest In Peace Greg. And thank you for being you.

How sad...I only knew him through my interactions with him on this board but he was a class act. So sorry to hear of his passing and my prayers and condolences to his friends and family.

Although I had only but a few exchanges with him, his take was one of always being instructive. His only agenda was to convey the facts as he knew them. It was rare he wasn't familiar with something. A true storehouse of TOS trivia and ephemera. So sorry to learn that he was struggling with health issues that eventually took him. :(

What a cruel twist of fate!

His ongoing thread about thread about props in the "original series" sub-forum was one of the most enjoyable I've read at this ite. Informative, entertaining and chock full of photos presenting screen accurate recreations.

Once I metaphorically cornered Schnitzer asking if we might ever see Lt. M'Ress since we saw Arex in the fan series "Phase II". At first he thought that might too gimmicky. But then he started to consider the technical challenges. I admitted it would probably too much, but Schnitzer took a more positive approach, reasoning it could be done. Some of his comrades even chimed in to suggest technical solutions. Even though it never came to fruition, I admired his, "Hey! This could work!" attitude.

    I'll certainly miss him.

I've been gone for a while and just read this shocking news. In the few interactions I had with Greg, he was always friendly and went out of his way to help me whenever I had an issue or question that needed resolving. My sincerest heartfelt condolences to his family and his many friends. He will very much be missed.

I was gone from TrekBBS for awhile and this is the first I have heard of this sad news. I can't say that I knew Greg well, but he helped answer some of my questions about the more hard to find TOS props without reservation. He was a smart man and a generous soul, he and his contributions will be missed. Peace be with you and Godspeed Mr. Schnitzer.

I was looking up some info. on Dr. McCoy's "brandy glasses" the other day on Google, and it sent me to a older TOS props-related thread on TrekBBS in which Greg had posted a lot of useful info. I saw his account was still open (at least as far as I could tell).

Is there something here akin to the "silent key" used for amateur radio enthusiasts (am one) who pass on? A "status" for example that can be added to a person's account to let others know they are no longer with us (and honor them)?

Glad to hear my suggestion was implemented; I just looked it up and saw the "In Memoriam" banner for Greg's account.
