David Gerrold was not invited to the premiere. Seems unhappy about it.

That makes a little more sense then.

David Gerrold should have thought about these things when he took sides against CBS in the Axanar debacle. That aside, the man sounds like a spoiled brat crybaby. There were countless people who did a lot more on the various shows and movies that likely weren't invited. His sense of entitlement is astonishing....all because he wrote one notable episode.

He's a whiny old man who can't understand why people don't pay his bills, give him cash because he's him, bow and scrape because of his minor contributions to the Trek landscape, and has a host of complaints/grudges/irritations/and pet peeves. He is thoroughly unpleasant with an over-sized need for validation.

btw, does Gerrold edit his replies? All those comments at the link are obsequious.

Wasn't Fontana pretty critical of Sybok back in the day? Anyone know her thoughts on Burnham's place in Spock's family?

I've never been a fan of speculating uselessly when you can ask for information directly. @David Mack is on this board. Of course, I'd also understand if he doesn't want to comment. But it seems rude not to make sure he knows he's being discussed. :)

Hrm. Whatever the reasons or wiether this is legitimate or not, if Gerrold did not get an invite (weither a mistake or politics) or if he did and for whatever reason didn't go (there was something on that facebook page about some ill health), it seems a shame that he didn't go.

It could have gone along way to help lessen some of the contentious nature that both Gerrold and CBS/Paramount have had for the past decades. Especially given that DSC will have things that Gerrold himself has wanted on a Star Trek series, and CBS, while does have some grieviences is not entirly without some heat over thier reaction to the fandom in general as a result of Axenor. This evening could have been away to sooth some ruffled fathers from many sides. Damn shame really.

He commented on Gerrold's post (one of them!) that he was not invited either.

Oh, okay. Then that is poor form on CBS' part.

If that's true then it is indeed poor form on CBS' part.

Was Wheaton not invited or did he just not want to go?

That seems like an odd decision on CBS's part. For starters, the guy has a recurring and popular role on the network's most popular series. Plus his opinion carries a lot of weight in the fandom. Seems like the kind of person they'd want going to bat for them.

I don't follow a lot of social media. Has Wheaton had much to say about Discovery?

There's only so many people who can be at a premiere. If you think about the number of people who have been involved in Trek, even limiting it to big players, that's a big guest list, and you haven't even started on the show you're actually premiering.

Both Vic Mignogna and Michele Specht (Star Trek Continues' Dr. McKennah) were invited.

I'm pretty miffed that red shirt #74 from TOS wasn't invited. I mean, his character died onscreen for cryin' out loud!
