This reminds me to drop by our planetarium at the university to pick up some shades...

I work for the power company and we've been getting questions about what the eclipse, even though we're not in the path of the total event will do to our solar generation... Since we have on-demand source power (gas/coal) to make up for dips in renewables, as well as one of the first utility scale battery storage facilities in the country, it won't affect us any more than a cloudy day or normal night time.. But people sure are curious!

Wow. Many of these glasses are backordered on Amazon. Some prices are outrageous! I should've picked them up at Lowe's where I saw them last month. :(

Officials at Vanderbilt University Medical Center have decided to recall 8,000 pairs of eclipse viewing glasses that were distributed last weekend at the Williamson County Fair.

Even the responsible can be fooled

Forget meteors--Monday is when the Triffids show up--with all the blinded caught in traffic jams...

These things are sold out across ABQ.. I ended up having to go to a tint/glass shop and buy a long strip of the certified stuff.. They know they are the only game in town now and are charging a premium... But at least it's the real deal. Will do some arts and crafts this weekend and glue pieces to some poster board so they aren't so flimsy.

Staff are to report back to work for the new academic year Monday. They are supposedly to let us outside at noon. Only 65% of the sun will be blocked at peak, here in Austin. However, Austin will experience a total eclipse in 2024.

Live on the path in Oregon, so I'm gonna watch from my front yard. Haven't seen one since the partial back in the 90's.

My mother lives in Charleston, so I'm visiting this weekend. I personally think it's hysterical
that tens of thousands of folk are swarming here to a 70 to 85 percent overcast, with
summer showers and thunder storms to view through a lens darkly.

Watched the live feed online since it really wasn't too visible here. Very cool. Does indeed remind us that our entire planet, which seems so vast to us, is just one tiny little piece of an infinitely large puzzle.

But still doesn't prove the Earth is round. We need a lunar eclipse for that.

For THREE DAYS, the weather report said it would be "mostly sunny" here.

    It's RAINING.

I WILL PUNCH GOD IN THE DICK.

The rain stopped, and the sun came out.

I'm stuck at work :( but I'm right next to a window so I can see that it looks a bit darker. It's very cloudy though :(

Really cool. The light got eerie here, very blueish and dim, with a cool breeze. :techman:

Well, here in Charleston during totality, the cloud cover provided the perfect filter to view the corona
    with the naked eye!
Being on the edge, we didn't get night sky (where the sky was visible), but it did look like
we had dawn and dusk at the same time.

It got a little dark, like nearly evening, but we didn't get totality here. I did go outside with a piece of cardstock with a whole punched in it and projected the eclipse.

    Also, the Atlantic.

And of course, CNN got a nice picture of Trump staring right up into the sun without the glasses. (too hard to post it from here, but yeah...)

Also some with them on, to be fair, but yeah, they caught him doing it!
