He doesn't care what you have to say about him, nor should he. You will never meet him, and he will never have to know who you are. Hell, I don't even know who you are. What the hell does "I'm came as close as anyone but an astronaut does" mean?

I've never seen so many thin-skinned people as you do when Trek fans congregate. Isaacs is a man with an opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.

You don't deserve his worship because you watch something he's part of.

None of the FF movies are direct sequels. But you totally missed the point.

It's like, whenever you revise something you can't extricate it from whatever constitutes "modern sensibilities". With Yamato they held onto the ship designs (more or less) and kept the retro 70s music pretty much verbatim, and to make it more adult/plausible they shored up the plot-holes but at the same time the character designs have become nondescript. Then they compromised that more serious tone by upping the T&A quotient with the painted-on outfits and "enhanced" cleavage and necrophilic camel-toes and tons of fanservice that just takes what little was in the original way over the top. So it's positive overall, but not a slam-dunk.

Well I think it's very likely that future Trek seasons will have to be scaled down because of cost. Wasn't one of the issue's that CBS had with Fuller was that they were spending to much money? I can see future Trek shows being done on the scale of a CW comic book show. I don't think that is a bad thing and can even be good because I tend to think shows like movies seem to be better in general when they don't have tons of money to spend. I wonder what the fan reaction will be if this happens in season 2 of "Discovery." Would it be able to adjust like "Supergirl" did in it's season 2 or would it be like "Walking Dead" season 2 were the entire season was about hanging out on a farm and endless trips into the forrest. As long it doesn't become a issue were all the aliens once again start to love putting things in caves I think it can adjust.:)

My theory is the show will have 3 seasons to prove itself. That should be more than enough time to see if has been able to keep the hardcore fans and win new fans as well. PLus after 3 seasons I figure people would have at the very least found time to give the show a chance and maybe get it from Netflix,Dvd etc even if they did't want to get CBS All Access.

If it doesn't work I think they could either do FUller's idea or remake TNG or go all in on nostalgia and do a cheaper prime universe more along the lines of the other shows or maybe a mini-series or even do web episodes like "Stargate" is doing though I think Trek wouldn't be that bad off in 3 seasons to be doing web episodes. I also think a carton is possible were you could have Trek actors basically voice their characters again.

You have to consider as well that a lot of the money spent on the first season - the design/construction of the sets and major locations (the Shenzhou and Discovery as prime examples) and the creation of CGI models of the same ships will have already been done. I think you could probably get away with a much cheaper version of the show - jettison half the cast by narrowing the focus down to the Discovery itself (get rid of the Klingons, reduce Sarek to a recurring guest star [like Cat Grant in Supergirl], dump any of the Starfleet Command setting/chaacters) would be the obvious starting point.

You really need to see Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 as it did stay very true to the original look across the board in addition to doing a great update of the story that stayed very true to the original while making some tweaks that fit very well. But the Bridge looked 'real' enough - they could have used the animation cells to create a real Bridge set it they choose as the mechanical design and layout was so well done.

Um, in the Japanese version of the 1973 Space Battleship Yamato and it's subsequent sequels and continuation through the 1980ies - there was PLENTY of "fan service" as they called it. That was mostly edited out of any English dubbed versions (along with many of the on screen deaths) done by Voyager Entertainment (who held the U.S. rights.)

In many areas SBY:2199 was tame in comparison on that front.

To be fair, I was skeptical when they announced Space Battleship Yamato 2199 back in 2011. Partly because the amount of information about it was light at the time, and there had just been two revival movies in the previous two years that hadn't quite got it right. In 2009 there was the Yamato: Resurrection film, which was a long delayed sequel film to the 1983 film Final Yamato. This film had been in development hell for about 15 year by 2009. It was alright, but suffers from some of its sound updating. The sound effects and especially musical score don't have the impact they needed to have. To be fair the composer died while the project was in production so they kind of made do with what they could get. Some pieces really did fit their scenes, or the scene would transition but the music would just keep playing and wouldn't fit the next several scenes at all. The Director's Cut fixed a bunch of this by redoing the music and returning some of the older sound effects that had better impact than the newer sound effects.

The second project was a live action Space Battleship Yamato movie. It was alright, but tried to fit too much plot into its run time. It basically played fast and loose with the universe to tell the main plot of the first series and then slam in the climax from the second series for no real reason.

But when Yamato 2199 came out, the general consensus was, "This is how you make a remake/reboot of an old, old series". By that point (2012), Hollywood had been making a lot of remakes to old series and generally failing at it at the box office. So that is why the consensus appeared about Yamato 2199. It looked and felt right for what it was and was still updated for the 2010s.

I loved the live-action movie. Better than most Hollywood space stuff.

Could the issue be that everyone wants something different from each other, mixed in with the idea that nobody really knows for sure if they will like something until they see it. I don't think most people wanted more Berman Trek but i'm not sure they want "Battlestar Galatica." either. If I had to guess I think most people want something with a sense of fun and with lots of humor and some interesting characters . I think "Star Wars" or the Kelvin Universe movies is what people want but maybe not in a already established setting.

PLus other thing is I do think people want some 'bigger than life" type of characters. I think that is one of the reasons why "TOS" became a hit and it's one of the reasons why "Star Wars" and Marvel Movies are big hits. I'm not so sure Burnham is going to win people over if they make her sullen and Vulcan like. Unless of course she is surrounded by funny characters to offset that.

Exactly. Why spend time worrying about someone's opinion whom we don't know personally and probably will never meet?

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. In the original there was one episode where IQ9 turned into a perv and there were wink wink nudge nudge allusions to Nova's planned fate to function as a baby-factory when the crew mutinees. In the movies, Nova and Wildstar consummate their relationship and Trelaina was nude but in an artful Lady Madonna sort of way. I find the fanservice on 2199 to be way more gratuitous, especially the way they changed the outfits to be more skintight and revealing and the insertion of more female characters just to provide more T&A. If its high priority to the franchise were not clear enough, they drove it home with the various model kits. Apparently Japan has never heard of the Bechdel test. So it's not that the original had no fanservice, but there was not nearly as much of it and the plausible deniability was more plausible. That's the difference between anime then vs. now.

Anything appears pointless when you turn it into a reductionist statement. Fortunately, we weren't speaking in reductionist statements.
