For all those who write fan fiction, I'm just wondering what system you use? Is it just MS Word or something else? I have Scrivener sitting on my computer gathering dust, though I'm planning on trying to get to grips with it and using it more.

    Word or Works processor.

@Bry_Sinclair , you might want to change the title of this thread to "What computer program do you write with?" or something like that...

I use Open Office. The only drawback with it is that its word counter works differently from the one used on the NaNoWriMo site. That means I have to write several hundred words extra, or the count won't come out right.

Not that it's that much of a problem. I'm usually about 5000 words over anyway.

When I have done it here I just use my computer and just start typing. I basically just type and see what comes out.

The one and only fanfic I had on Trekbbs, I actually wrote in live posts in its thread. But that was at least 15 years ago, and I wasn't really interested in keeping it for posterity. Everything else I wrote on Microsoft Word 2000 and later, Word 2010.

Before all that, though, I wrote many Trek fanfics on an electric typewriter. That forced me to really think about every line I wrote before I put it to page. Even though I had correction ribbon, changing whole paragraphs and even just a sentence, wasn't really an option unless I wanted to retype an entire page.

I used Google Docs to write the fan fiction that my husband encouraged me to write and post, this past year. It makes it easier to share for editing by hubby and my alpha reader. The last time I even attempted to write a story (an original story), I was using Word Perfect for Amiga Computers, so I have no idea if Google Docs is a decent writing software or not.

I type each chapter on Notepad. I then copy over to Word, where I format the chapter and correct any grammatical/spelling errors. Then I save the final product to Word, and upload to FF dot net and copy over to AO3, NFA, trekiverse and any other site I need to post the chapter at.
